Mercon V

All,

Me thinks flushing fluids through the filter twice , is not a good idea ! The Filter should be changed !

I recently had a conversation with my trans. Tech. about installing trans. pans with drain plugs ! His point was/is if the fluid needs changed , the filter needs changed !

Good Luck,
Sonny

Thats not to say drains are bad in the pans, as alot of us do our own maintanence so it's alot nicer to drain the pan with the plug, before dropping the pan to get to the old filter. Especially when your car is on jack stands. Also some of the after market pans also have finned aluminum for better heat dissapation to assist in cooling of the fluid.

I survived the Car Guy life force black hole that is :eek:Pep Boys:eek:. After much miscommunication, misinformation, misdirection, mismanagement, misrepresentation, mistreatment, misappropriation, (and possible missionary:D) this supremely mistrustful miscreant was given Mercon V only by threat of micellaneous misconduct and mirthful misanthropy about the head and shoulders of the miserably misguided misfits who enjoy the misnomer of management and mechanics at "Pep Boys". Please don't misquote me:p1
But seriousiy folks, I was given the Mercon V in the end, but it took a threat of getting my lawyer (my sister) involved. That store is a nightmare. I only hope they didn't pee in my trans too.:fart At least I (hopefully) have 12.8 quarts of V in there. I will be smelling it in the a.m. to see if it stinks (Trixie claims it will) to try and determine if they actually did the right thing in the end. I will keep you posted.

Next time you use them or someone else to change your oil or fluids go out and buy the fluid from your local parts store and then tell the service center you are supplying your own oil. They should give you a credit for the oil they don't supply, but adleast you will know you got the right stuff (make sure you see the emptys).

I've done this and I watch them pour it in. One time I grabbed 1 wrong quart, They traded it for the correct stuff.

Dude...you SO did see "V for Vendetta" didn't you?

I swear that I have never seen V for Vendetta. I assume that I once again wrote in a manner that reminds you of a character from that movie? I will make it a point to see it. What is the guys name?
I never got to smell the fluid since we had horrible (sleet / snow / rain etc.) weather today, but I'll check tomorrow.
And by the way, I DO NOT USE PEP BOYS or any of the other chain type :eek:Auto repair:eek: places. I went there to correct an error they made when the previous owner had the car. It was a long shot, but it paid off in the end with (hopefullt 12.8 quarts of new Mercon V.

You can't miss him. Main character, wears the mask, name is "V".

I'll have to check it out. I may be w/o wheels for a few days (check my new threak in "Breaks / Suspension to find out why) so I'll have some free time.
