Method/chemical for radiator de-scaling

Hello all:

Do you know of a chemical or method of de-scaling the radiator? My wife's '87 GMC Jimmy 2.8LV6 4x4 has the interior of the radiator coated in some parts with hard water deposits (the car has 230K mi) and I'm asking if there's a chem that can be poured in the radiator and run for a while to dissolve the deposits, before a radiator flush. Any info is appreciated.
To extend this question, can this be done to a 93 MK 8 radiator, if necessary, as a complement to Water Wetter, 180 stat etc.?
Thanks

If the radiator has enough deposits to cause a heat transfer problem it should probably be replaced with a higher capacity radiator. Although its rather unlikely that the deposits are enough to really block heat transfer or passages altogether. I usually see dirt, bad coolant, or other issues as bigger issues for heat transfer problems than these deposits.

There are several DIY radiator flush products on the market that do exactly what you describe, but usually the best products are available at a dealer service center. It is recommended to flush the cooling system every two years.
