midwest boundries

What area does the midwest contain? We have almost enough people in a 150 mile radius of cincinatti to make a seperate Chapter. Is all of Ohio in the midwest? I know most events occur in the chicago area which is 300 miles from cinci, and 360-180 from columbus and lexington. That is kinda far.

RE: midwest boundries

Maybe it really is time to consider the boundaries of the Midwest Chapter. We cover the largest area of any Chapter and have probably more members than any other chapter, too.

If we don't split into different areas, perhaps we could get more "chapter" representation from people in the other major areas - I know we do a lot of things in Chicago, but I've also always been interested in going out to other areas in the midwest for meets, and really want to get back out to the Cinci area, and Detroit again, and anywhere else people want to get together. :)

Maybe with all the elections coming up, we should consider having more positions filled in our Chapter, so it's not all left to one person to organize.

RE: midwest boundries

*cough cough* St. Louis :)

We have a lot of fun cites in the midwest though. Heres a sampling. (ranked by Money magazine)

1. Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota
5. Chicago, Illinois
16. Detroit, Michigan
17. St. Louis, Missouri
19. Indianapolis, Indiana
20. Cincinnati, Ohio
21. Columbus, Ohio

RE: midwest boundries

Personally I feel that a split may be needed. I can say for one that being in northeastern ohio it is very difficult to make it to meets in chicago and St louis. I think we may want to have an all ohio or ohio, pennsylvania, michigan chapter. Just a thought. I also will probably be chastized for this but... I think that my time hosting the chapters site is done. I will continue to host it untill the time comes when the president of the midwest or his partners can set one up somewhere else. We can also arrange a transfer of the domain name www.lodmw.org at no cost to the club or chapter. I have always done this from the goodness of my heart. I just feel that I need to take a more backseat approach to this organization. I really appreciate the club and its members, but I am still torn between friends. Yes this goes back to the "revolution" that happened. Please understand my feelings on this matter. If anyone sees this and wants to help setup the transfer of the domain or just talk about options, feel free to email me at bille3@idorapark.org. I will continue to be a supportive and paying member of this organization, but I need to cut my role down.

RE: midwest boundries

Bill, I don't think anyone would be upset that you can't host the site for us anymore. It's been very gracious and generous of you to do so for as long as you have. Besides, with the club having it's own set up now, they should be able to provide us space, just as they have the other chapters.

As an aside, please try not to feel as if you are torn. That's not required, you can have as your friends whomever you wish. You still should come to Chicago though, cause we're fun. :)

Oops, one more thing regarding the meets though - we can, and have had midwest meets all over the place, it just takes someone to organize them and set them up.

RE: midwest boundries

Sure Ohio, PA, Kentucky would be cool. Thanks for the kind words Sharon. I certainly do want to attend one meet in chicago sometime. I want to taste real deep dish not someones weak interpretation. I am also looking forward to Carlisle this comming year. I was unable to attend this year due to a transmission rebuild. I will however want to show off my list of upcomming mods. I have some Y2K cobra R rims on the way. I also hope to have some exhaust work finished and the chrome strips deleted by then. I also hope to have the MAF upgrade and icebox done too. Above all though It is just a great time with fellow club members.

RE: midwest boundries

Nebraska is true Midwest I think! I also think that there needs to be a limit to the number of states represented in each possible chapter. That does not mean that you cannot attend other chapters events though. I think as far as the possible Oh, Pa, Ky, and WV chapter that would be quite enough. I think Ohio is about 3 hour drive wide and 6 hour drive tall. Pa is about 6 hour drive length and 2-3 hour tall. Ky is about 2 hour tall and 4 hour wide. WV is about 3 hour tall and 2 hour wide. THis is alot of ground to cover. I just don't want to see us have the same geographic largeness problem we currently are experiancing. When I helped to start the midwest chapter origionally, there were only about 20 or so members that wanted to be a part in the whole portion of the u.s. that we currently cover. Due to the growth of this clubs membership, we currently have the largest chapter membership because of our massive footprint. I am happy and delighted that it has come to this point. We certainly want to have these kind of growing pains. That means that we as a club are doing something right. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated on the status of how many states covered is too much for a chapter.

RE: midwest boundries

I live 15 minutes from Joe. In northern Kentucky we are 2-4 hours from most anyone. I am all for a midwest ( east ) chapter. Hope to see a bunch of you at Carlisle.

RE: midwest boundries

Well, I rememebr back when the Midwest chapter was being formed, that I was a little put out that Nebraska was left out! I thought it was strange that they were trying to include Pennsylvania, which is clearly an easy coast state. But anyway that is old news...

We should be in the same division as Kansas City and St. Louis because those are not too far to drive. Also Minneapoilis is about the same... Chicago is a little more, but anything east of there seems like a really really long way...

RE: midwest boundries

I am appologize for leaving Nebraska out in the begining. I had to limit somewhat due to size constraints. Update on what will need to happen. I will continue to pay for the domain name. I will make a promise to pay for it for the next 10 years. I will in no way try to pull that domain name or charge the club any money for its hosting. The website however should be setup using this sites server space. I will be removing all content from the http://www.lodmw.org site in one months time. I have decided to host another website of my personal interests and goals. I have certainly enjoyed hosting the site for the chapter, but I cannot afford hosting 2 sites. Once the new website is ready to be created please contact me at Bille3@idorapark.org. That way we can point the dns in the right way and have the domain linked to the new site. I will go ahead and update the current site news about the upcomming transfer. I do want to state publically that I do not expect any monitary compensation for hosting in the past or the continued hosting of the domain name itsself. I have nothing but respect and gratitude towards this clubs membership.

RE: midwest boundries

I'm sorry - the Nebraska thing was a joke - yes, we were (and still are) a pretty big group.

So let's figure out how we could restructure to best meet the needs of the people in the Midwest.

Thanks Bill for all you have done, which includes starting this great chapter up, and your generous offers and donations.

RE: midwest boundries

It seems kind of rediculuous to have Minnesota and Ohio in the same chapter, considering they are 500+ miles apart. It seems that it would make sense to break it up into 3 sections: mideast, chicago area, and upper midwest(which kind of already exists, just not through LOD).

RE: midwest boundries

in in St. Louis... for about another month and a half. Then I'm moving another 100 miles south to Cape Girardeau, MO.

RE: midwest boundries
