Might be a dumb questions but here it goes

So I'm rebuilding the suspension on my 94, or as I normally do I'm collecting parts to do it! I'm looking at doing a coil conversion, But what I want to know is do struts from a Thunderbird work on our cars? Reason I ask is cause I found a set of Koni adjustable struts for a 97 T-bird and I need to know if I get the conversion will these work with the springs or is there some special part that has to go on to work? If they work can I just use performance springs then too? What is the difference from the conversion that you can buy from Eddie to just getting spring and struts for a T-bird basically is what I'm asking. I already have the rear end all set so no worries there.

You can get the Koni's, but the difference in the strut is that the strut end(top) is WAY too long, so you have to saw/grind it off or the hood won't close.

There is someone that installed the Koni's all the way around, and it takes some modification because you have to remove the stock strut from the actual strut housing, than drill holes, etc....all to get it to work.

The Koni insert is 1" longer that stock shock portion. I don't knwo where you got this impression that you have to cut something. They fit just fine, only the black plastic covers need to come off or you can drill the hole, and have the adjustment knob sticking thru (good idea anyway).

Ummm....oh. The thread I read on the other forum said that you had to cut it down....that was about 2 years ago though, so maybe I misread and forgot something.

OK...so here is what I need....I need a detailed pic of the front coil-over from a conversion kit, preferably off the car if you can, I simply need to see what is on top of the strut to see if what this guy has will work or if Im better off just getting the conversion from Eddie. Only problem I have is that if I get that conversion and end up wanting to change it over to the Koni's then Ill be buying 2 setups.

Actually...the Koni's you buy will be ONLY the strut insert, that is where the modifying comes in play. Let me search.......

Here is what he has:

Notice how much thread is "black" on the top of the struts....I'm pretty sure thats what I was referring to when someone said you had to hack off the top of the strut. I'm thinking Craig mentioned it about all T-Bird struts when someone asked if that was a proper vehicle for the conversion, and he said "yeah, you just have to hack off the top of the strut or it will hit the hood". I'm guessing you can't do this with the Koni's because they are adjustable?

But I wonder if they are so tall as to not keep on the beauty cover. They guy that owned them had them on his bird for under 5000 kilometers(whatever the hell that converts to in miles) and most of that was on 4 or 5 track days he says.

What Im most interested in is what cover goes on the top of the springs, simply put since I have the wonderfully awful air rid do I have to get the cove part that bolts on to hold the springs or is that part of my car already?

This picture owns you J

You need the top spring perch from the t-bird as well.

What is he asking for that set ?

Lol, that pictures pwns CRAIG....I'm just the messenger. :D I stand corrected though. :)

He is asking 400 for the whole set...so not too bad, brand new they are 575 I think so again just getting ideas. Maybe eddie can sell me just the top cover.

Napa sells ALL the parts in a strut assembly. I've converted a two Continentals to coils using Napa brand parts made for the Taurus and everything fit great. They sell springs, struts(obviously, haha), strut mounts, strut brackets(if needed) and sometimes even rear spring perches.
