MOD questions

The easiest way to solve any hood issues is a cowl hood. But to clear a Cobra intake with a Gen1 hood requires modifications. The K-member can be shimmed and the rear cross brace can be cut for clearance.

The IMRC deletes are a controversial issue. A lot depends on the type of boost and the amount of boost. IMHO, with a centrifugal SC and modest boost, I would not do the IMRC deletes.

The '96-'98 Cobra KB blower is not very popular due to cost and the fact it is not intercooled.

Just my observations. ;)

The only way to run a KB in my opinion is with "C" heads so you can use the latter kits with inter-cooling. The tight spot under the hood is at the blower pulley. The "Cobra Style hood" moves a lot of air thru the engine compartment

sounds to me like i need to stick to my plans; i want to keep the factory hood. im beefing up the bottom end with forged pistons crank and rods. im keeping the "B heads" was told not to bother porting the heads, im beefing up the valve springs. iv opted not to bother with the motorsport cams but insted im looking at Cobra take-offs but i havnt desided what years and im going to get ither a paxton or vortek supercharget (9lbs) and fabricate a tube to adapt to the 94 intake and remove the IMRC and of corce all the extras like pulleys, exhost, TB, massair and chip. ANY THOUGHTS

if you're going with a centri then i wouldn't change the TB.

Go with a big air-air intercooler and don't go below 9:1 compression unless you plan on using a 3.5k+ stall. (Since they build boost anything under 9:1 will make a dog out of the motor in low rpms especially with 9psi).

paxton has had reliabilty issues and bearing failures that I don't know if they fixed, the mark 8 oil pan is a PITA to tap... so I prefer procharger.... their entry level P-1sc flows as much as a vortec T trim and can handle 30psi or 825hp whatever comes first.

An electric waterpump would probibly be a good idea too.

And I don't know about vortec but with procharger I went with an aftermarket fan and radiator to fit... And a ford GT MAF with a diablo MAF extender. For 9psi you'd need 42lb/hr injectors and a new fuel pump.

if you use platnum plugs you have to switch to copper or iridium with forced induction.

You'll also need some tranny work.

None of the companies make a kit for the car so you'll need custom tubing, but you could use the mounting bracket for the 99 cobra.

whoops I thought you wanted tips on centris not thoughts...

its a good idea, not as much tq as the twinscrew SC but there is never a drop in HP. Your gas mileage might improve on the highway, and it will drive like a normal car until you hit about 3k.

The fastest mustang on radials uses a centri

The intake issue is why most have gone to using the Cobra intake manifold with Centri's. I did see Dennis Rinehart put together a system for the Gen 1's using the stock manifold, looked pretty nice. You may want to contact him for a complete kit.

...Dennis Rinehart...You may want to contact him for a complete kit.

Or not.

I sank $6K in trannies from him that lasted about 500 miles. He paid for nothing, provided no help, and told me to f-off when I asked for a little labor reimbursement. This was after his supplier informed me that they were TOLD by him to build a tranny with inferior parts and not up to his advertised spec.

Of course DR denies it...but you can take your chances if you like.

DR

DR

he built me nice tubes for my supercharger kit...

BUT I found out on here from Lonnie that the tune used to firm my shifts up was a line lock which ran fluid pressure max all of the time. Now I have a blown front main seal in my tranny... And that was from a guy that supposedly is an "expert" tuner... Plus my A/F is all over the place now and my timing is wierd.

Go figure, made solid and clean tubes though.

*edit* When I called him about the tune he wanted to charge me to check it and charge me to fix it?

Just trying to tell the man who has done what. I have had several dealings with Dennis and all turned out fine, but I am aware that there was a problem that developed over transmission rebuilds done by Art Carr.My point is Dennis has built Mark Vlll Centri SC setups for Gen 1's.

Mine was built by the supplier prior to Art Carr...American Transmission. They refused to do business with him because DR blamed them for the faulty units despite the fact that they built them exactly how DR asked them to be built.

I would suggest finding a tuner, and consult with them what you intend to do, and if they can deliver a safe tune for you. Are you planning on converting to obd2? That is another thing to consider, as it would help the tuner dial in your tune.

Blow through a pmas is the way to go now days with a huge intercooler and bov for the centri if you plan on driving without worry of air temps.

Some have had luck without this type of set up, but in my opinion, I am glad I took the extra steps going with a intercooler on my Mark.

Another thing to consider would be a Cobra crate motor. Might be a way to save some money. How about a second gen Mark VIII intake instead of a first gen? Just another thought on how to keep the cost down, and the mods to a minimum. Good Luck! :)

Im in Dallas and Dallas Mustang can tune OBD I, im not too woried about the trans senc i had it worked on first "last wenter" geting it ready for the motor build and im not planing on doing any drag racing iv been working with DM on parts and Cobra Spec info its just a mater of translating in in the the dumb down mark motor and not passing the limits of the rest of the car as a day-to-day driver. so far ever yone info has been a big help.

What about playing with the cam degree advancing the exhost cams etc or is TDC best for street and low SC boost?

From what I hear, you have to be very careful when advancing the cams on the modular motors due to piston to valve clearance issues, especially at high RPMs.

Hey Greg do to HPP performance in lewisville, and Talk to Manny about what you want to do. they have some serious supercharged setups. here is there home page. Manny has a 100hp daily driver mustang it is pretty sick Keep in touch man
