Saturday morning/afternoon will be an opportunity for a group 'mod session'. Ryan is working to hook us up w/ Apten Performance in Cincy so we may use their lot. Wherever we end up, everyone is encouraged to attend even if just to watch!

I started this thread to bounce back and forth ideas for working on our cars. Remember we will be racing Friday nite and Saturday nite, so this will be a great opportunity to 'Test 'n Tune' and see what improvements any particular mod may bring to the Mark VIII.

Here's some project ideas that would be perfect for track testing:

UnderDrive Pulley(s)
Spark Plug change w/ 'Nitrous Mod'
R&R Plug Wires
Thermostat Replacement
Intake Silencer Removal
Intake Tube/MAF/Air Filter Mods
Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator Install
Performance Chip installation or change
EGR delete

If I can get my suspension compressor lowered in time for the meet, I myself am hoping to swap out the MAF and change my Cold Air Intake setup. If I can get it done, I hope to substantiate the difference both at the track and with onboard temperature readings. I've also expressed interest in an EGR delete. 'Course if someone is willing to gut my cats and install my replacement O2 sensors... }(

Part of the purpose of this mod session is to 'spread the knowledge' of working on our cars. So if you have particular experience in an area, let it be known so people can get hooked up with you and bring what they need.

Not all ideas need to be speed related mods either. Maintenance and cosmetic mods are encouraged as well. How 'bout:

Pulley/Tensioner/Serpentine Belt Replacement
Sensor Lowering
Spider Valve Install
Brake Rotors and/or Brake Pads
White Face Gauge Install
Upgrade EATC
Gen1 headlight issues

For instance, Howard(southkymark) will be helping me with replacing my fading chrome strip in my poor front bumper.

Let the games begin! :D

RE: Mod Session @ LOD Summer Bash

Howard also said that he would help by replaceing my chrome around the car. I would also be interested in air silencer removal. Just small stuff for now untill i get some money.

RE: Mod Session @ LOD Summer Bash

I won't be getting gears, so for right now, I think I'll just replace my spark plugs.

If the Kid comes with he's done sensor lowering a couple times, and if Hubby comes, he's replaced my heated seat element, and helped mess up Mark's leather seats (j/k).

We do have the hog ring pliers. If anyone wants to do upholstery work let me know and I can bring it.

RE: Mod Session @ LOD Summer Bash

I'd like to have the nose of my car dropped just a hair, so I don't know what tools are needed for that, but unless they are a sledge hammer, axe, or bat... I won't be carrying them... :7

RE: Mod Session @ LOD Summer Bash

Sax, I don't think any of your tools will work. :7

A 3/8" socket set, drill and drill bits are what you need after the car is up and the wheels are off.

RE: Mod Session @ LOD Summer Bash

Taking the wheels off... this is starting to sounds like major surgery... :D

Actually, what I was thinking is maybe a dremel or something that might be able to grind a little extra from the inside top part of the mounting bracket. I've already adjusted them within the allowed tolerances as far down as I could get the car to sit (without taking the wheels off :p ) But if I could just get a little bit more it would be perfect. Any holes would make the car sit to low and I wouldn't be able to drive it around most of Massachusetts... :(

Thanks! -J :7

Drill bits, etc are only required for antiquated 1st gens.

RE: Mod Session @ LOD Summer Bash

I ended up with an extra K-member that I will bring if anyone is interested. I will get rid of it if I have all the right reasons. I think it would take about six hundred of them. Free installation assistance with purchase, only valid day of Cinci modifications.:p

RE: Mod Session @ LOD Summer Bash

Now you say something Eli!!!! I just bought the last set of headers that Dan had ready last week. I don't know if they'll be in by then or not.

RE: Mod Session @ LOD Summer Bash

i don't know if i'd want to install headers in some parking lot. that's a lot of work.

RE: Mod Session @ LOD Summer Bash

You can add upper control arms to the list. I can get them done very quick. Just get the parts from rockauto.com

RE: Mod Session @ LOD Summer Bash

I could definitely go for a sensor lowering.

AND... I'd like someone to check out my front end. Something's definitely wrong with the steering, but I've got no idea what to look for.

EDIT: If anyone is planning on doing any brake work, I'd like to watch that too.

RE: Mod Session @ LOD Summer Bash

I have a few things to do to my car, maybe i'll save them for the meet (another excuse to procrastinate :)). I have upper rear shock mounts to replace, and i need to replace the brake proportioning valve.

Mark, What are the symptoms?
[/div]

This really isn't the right place for it, but basically...

Doesn't return to center very well.
Occasional pops and creaks when turning while braking.
When turning, the outer wheel sometimes jumps. It seems to happen at a specific position of the steering wheel, so could I'm thinking a tooth may be broken in the rack?

Upper control arms have been replaced and it drives straight as an arrow. It's just turning that sucks. I'd like to just replace the rack anyway with a first gen rack, as the higher ratio on second gens makes it seem like I'm steering an ocean liner.

RE: Mod Session @ LOD Summer Bash

Hey Mark!

I have a lower control arm set that you might be interested in. They come with the ball joints already installed. I might be buying the kmember and control arms from Eli and won't need the arms that I bought already. I also have the strut rod bushings too. These can be had for cheap if your interested.

Dave I might be putting different springs in the rear of my car, so I can help you with your rear shock mounts if you want.

If anyone wants to see coil springs system just give me a yell.

RE: Mod Session @ LOD Summer Bash

Is there going to be access to some sort of thing, that you know, melts metal to metal, like a welder of some sort? And perhaps a better question, will there be anyone there qualified and sober enough to operate such a device? :7 There's a few things that I may like to have welded, just a little. :7

Also, anyone up for putting a new belt tensioner on my car? I think the one that's on there is on it's way out...

And while we're on the subject, I'd like to have my wheels striped and re-chromed, so if there is some sort of maybe bathtub or kiddie pool that we could use for plating by electrolysis that would rule. :7

ok, I'm done... -J :7

RE: Mod Session @ LOD Summer Bash

Hey Joe think we could use the trunk of the green car to start a metal plating tub....... Another use for an older vehicle.
