Motor mounts

RE: Motor mounts

Hmm. $110 a pair. Mine aren't really BAD, but they do have 100k on them and i launch hard all the time. I don't notice any unusualy play and they seem solid, none of the rubber seems to be coming out and there's no liquid coming out or anything. I think i might just keep the stock ones on for awhile longer.

RE: Motor mounts

You may ask Bill @ SCP(one of our sponsors). I know he carries the T-Bird/Cougar mounts.

It is very difficult to tell if they are worn out or not. The engine won't vibrate very much because as we all know, they are better tuned than most. And they won't turn under load because the stock and performance mounts have the safety flanges bent over the sides.

The only reason you would replace them is to lower vibration.

I replaced mine at 75K miles with the performance mounts. A WORLD of difference. One of my old mounts was completely wasted. The bolt had completely torn away from the rubber - you could rotate it freely with your fingers.

I would say the only way for one to know if their engine mounts were bad is to compare how their engine runs to someone who has just replaced the mounts. You'd know the difference if they were bad.

Other than that, I would guess that your mounts are bad if you are at 100K miles - hard launching or not.

RE: Motor mounts

A friend of mine just put new mounts on his supercoupe. Mines still smoother :). I think he used the MN12 solid mounts.

The bolts still appear tight on mine, and the rubber doesn't look cracked or worn. They still feel tight. When i twist them in my hand one side won't move in relation to the other. They are out of the car currently because i'm having a header reworked.

only because it's a lincoln. Now go and tell him THAT !!! LOL.

Who's fixing the header ?

RE: Motor mounts

pf&e will be fixing the header. Going to replace the steering shaft too. They said $100 to re-route the one primary away from the steering shaft. Damn things are already rusty too, gonna clean them up and paint them again. Or at least the one i have out.

Probably gonna hold off on the motor mounts for awhile yet. Unless they get really bad. It's not like it's that difficult to drop the k-member and swap them out.

RE: Motor mounts

When I replaced mine a while back, I was able to turn one easily. I still have the other one if you need it, 70k miles on it.

RE: Motor mounts

Nah, if that's what happens when they're bad, then mine are still fine. I guess not driving the car in the winter goes a long way toward prolonging their life.

RE: Motor mounts

A Ford tech showed me how the mount on one side typically "goes" before the other...

With the hood open, he brake torqued the car while in drive. You could see noticeable lift on one side of the motor.

Then he did the same while in reverse. The other side of the motor lifted, but not nearly as much.

Same RPMs were used, too.

RE: Motor mounts

i have made a bunch of sets of Delrin and aluminum solid motor mounts. they are really nice. a buddy put a set in his mark with the delrin ones and he has no vibration issues and no motor movement.

RE: Motor mounts

well my mounts have a bolt through the center of it. this has to be put in from under neith. on a stock k-member car with long tubes i am shure it is a pain the butt but on a tubular k-car it is cake. i would say 2 to 3 hours depending on how good you are. they make a big difrence. i did the aluminum solid ones about two years ago but they are too expensive, i made the delrin ones because they are much nicer and cheaper. nicer meaing some vibration dampaning and cheaper meaning instead of 220 they are 120.
