MP3 Factory Hook up.

Well I finally got this mess installed.

I say mess for several reasons.

I was in the middle of doing the suspension when the product showed up. I quickly removed the CD changer in the trunk to look at the plug. It was different. I stuck the CD changer back in and forgot about messing with this anymore until other job were finished.

So after the front suspension and brakes were done I pulled the radio out of the dash and looked at the connections on that. They were different. :(

I don't know how much more plain I could have made it, that this was a Factory JBL sound system with a 10disc CD changer in the trunk.

Several calls to tech support at MP3 my car and to peripheral electronics [the manufacture or importer] got me no where. On hold forever. :(

So I sent both of them a email and included a pix from Crutchfield showing a different cable needed for my car as well as pixs of the cable that they sent.

48hrs latter I still didn't hear from either of them. Screw This!
I called MP3 my car and asked for a RMA to send it back. Alan answered the phone and was VERY nice. I explained everything and he encouraged me to let him fix this problem. I gave in and said OK.

Several days latter I got a email from peripheral electronics telling me that the unit does plug into the radio in the dash. Big help right? NOT! [as you will see]

So today I get the new cable and pull the radio. This cable doesn't look like the one Crutchfield showed on their website.

So anyway I disconnect the cable from the back of the radio. It is a male plug. I plug the male plug into radio from the new jumper cable, but it has a female plug on it too. So I plug the factory cable that I unplugged from the radio into that plug [I'm winging it here. There are no instructions] and there is a Yellow [+] & a Black [-]wire that must be hooked up to charge the Ipods onboard battery. So I get this all done.

Understand that the instruction totally suck as they are totally generic and non specific to my car.

With the radio still laid out of the dash I fire this thing up and it keep getting a message that says NO CD. There are no CD's in the CD changer.
The instructions say that it may take 3min to find itself, so I wait. Still nothing.

Ok lets go exploring. I go back to the trunk again and pull the power cable from the CD changer.

Remember this?

Just a few more words and I would of had this going in no time.

Well after disconnecting the CD changer wiring it worked. Yea!

But wait there is more.

So I route the cable that actually plugs into the Ipod itself and while fishing it around the anti strain part just falls off down in the dash some where.
Great! What a piece of Crap!

I call MP3 my car and ask for Allan and he's with a customer. I get Cory. I give my story and Ref # and he's sending me a new cable.

This was not a real pleasant experience.

1. I found the stuff cheaper. [same thing]
2. Tech support was NON Existent.
3. Waiting on stuff to come ground from Ca. :(
