MS Server 2003 question

We will be installing a 2003 exchange server at work. I have been told that it will not work with our NT4 Domain controller and that we must have a 2003 Domain controller before installing the new Exchange server. ("2003 is such a different animal...")

Is this true?

We will also be installing a MS 2003 on a new Raid Server to run a SQL-based database for our Records Division and Computor-aided dispatch.

What order should we install these servers in order to minimize conflicts and labor?

Anything else to consider before we get too deep into this?

Thanks in advance!

RE: MS Server 2003 question

I had my hands in something similar a couple of months ago. Yes it is true, you have to upgrade all the servers in the domain. As far as what order, I don't think it really matters. If it helps we did our mail server last, but during the migration, for some reason we had to manually enter all the email accounts - what a pain.

Hope this helps...

RE: MS Server 2003 question

I'm a stickler for back ups. In fact whenever I do something new I start on a brand new platter. Take what you have back it up and then stick in a new HD. In this way if you have some unforseen problem and it takes a day or two to resolve you can always go back to the old stuff and keep working. Saved my rear big time once. Just pop the old HD back in like nothing ever happened. Most of my stuff we had to do at night while everyone else was sleeping. The only thing more fustrating is trying to do an upgrade and it does not work is trying to get the old stuff to work again before everyone starts walking through the front door. Kinda glad I don't have that job any more. Good luck

RE: MS Server 2003 question

Are you already using a version of exchange, (5.5?), with your NT systems? If so, you'll want to get Exchange 2003 up and running,, join the old Exchange to the new one, then move all the existing mailboxes to 2003.
