Mustang Hubs/Exciter Ring

Does anyone that has done the Mustang hub swap on their MK VIII have any trouble with the ABS? I'm curious if the exciter ring lines up with the original MK VIII stuff or not. I don't have a garage and it's rained for the last month so I haven't been able to get under my car to inspect the mounting of the sensor, hence the query. Thanks for your time.

RE: Mustang Hubs/Exciter Ring

OK, went to Ford and ordered hubs for each car then sent the MK VIII hub back. Fortunately the guys are used to me and this doesn't bother them, they actually suggested it.

The exciter ring on the MK VIII hub is located flush with the inside edge of the hub assembly. The exciter ring on the Mustang hub assembly is set outboard (away from the car) about a big 1/4" but it looks like I can simply shift it inboard to match the MK VIII. If that fails then I'll simply yank the MK VIII exciter rings from the existing hubs and mount them onto the Mustang hubs. Exciter rings are NOT available seperately from Ford.

RE: Mustang Hubs/Exciter Ring

I know this is a bit old, but, was this a successful change? Just curious. I've been doing some research on this particular swap. I have really only found information on the front, nothing on the rear. I'd like to mod all 4 corners for obvious reasons, not to mention the fact that it opens up much more wheel options. Thanks.

RE: Mustang Hubs/Exciter Ring

I left the rear brakes alone for now. It takes some machine work and I haven't found a decent machinist that I can trust yet. The fronts work fine. The car was posted in another thread showing the wheels installed. I think there is a link to some pictures in my profile too.

RE: Mustang Hubs/Exciter Ring

I didn't do the rear brakes, the front and rear Mustang hubs are on there. All that guy is doing is redrilling the rear hubs which is fine but... If your car is a high mileage vehicle like most of them you should replace the rear bearings. Since they're pressed out you might as well use the real Mustang hubs. Hubs are about $70 a piece, bearings $30 each, press work at a shop $40. If you have a press you can do that yourself easily. I don't have a press so I was at the mercy of the shop.

It's the brake mounting bracket that poses a problem that needs a machinist or spare time to work on. Look at the TCCoA website technical section for documentation. You can also find more info on my own swap at the other Lincoln website. In my profile is a link showing the finished car.
