My $360 Mark VIII

A couple of months ago, I bought a 93 Mark from a lady which had been in her family since her dad bought it new. When I saw it, the car was slammed, and had been sitting for 4 months. I initially offered her $200, but she countered with $350, and I gave her $360 in all $20's. I told her keep the change.

The car was in pretty bad shape. No more than any other Mark we all happen across these days. Hell, for $360, not bad. The seals on the tranny got weak, and most of the transmission fluid leaked out. So I needed to do a tranny service. The suspension was so far compressed, that when I jacked up the car. The wheels stayed tucked.

The first thing I did was do the whole front end suspension. They were all shot.

On the passenger side, the bolt that held the air strut to the LCA was seized, and I had to take them out as an assembly.

The rest of the suspension came out with no problem. They were really compressed.

After I was done, the car was back to normal height.

very nice! the body looks clean, too! How's the interior?

additional observation. you've got a whole lotta Fords in that neighborhood of yours.

Oh, that's not the end of it. I've got three Marks, I figured I would play with this one. Time to paint it now. I didn't like the color, and wanted to make it silver. Keep in mind, I admit, I am in no way a professional, but I really wanted to do it myself and learn. I had a few runs, and I am going to take care of those. I invested in a 1 stage paint and sprayed this morning.

I am happy I don't live next to you spraying a car outside, I hope there was no wind out

Wow, silver is an extremely ambitious colour to spray, especially for a do-it-yourselfer. I know a few body/paint guys that refuse to shoot silver because of the runs and colour shading problems. More power to ya!:)

Great story and I'm glad your new Gen 1 didn't end up in a junkyard. Please post more pics of the progress - I'm curious as to how it's going. Bravo to you for painting it!

you have alot of tiger stripes on the hood gman, but like you said, you are not a pro, the car was cheap, and its presentable lol!! not bad man, keep up the progress. i have sprayed outside too, usually over night, if the humidity is down, no wind, you would be suprised what can be pulled off outdoors!! i repainted two 24 foot uhaul box trucks, ford F-550's the big ones, i had no choice but to spray outdoors!!!

Ya, It is very hard to try to figure out how to get rid of those stripes. I have more paint, I am going to spray the hood again.

spray the hood in only one direction, do not spray back and fourth, start from one end and spray, stop, go back and overlap a few inches and spray the same direction again, do that and you should have no problem.
