My arnott struts are making noises.

*don't flame me*

Just wanted this post in the forum for archive reasons as I'm going to be returning the struts after 8 months of use under warrenty. The strut makes a vibration when it compresses as well as HAVING COME with a hole in it.

The whole problem is that I don't have replacement struts for the time the strut is in the mail.

When I bought the struts I had the understanding that the mechanics of the arnott struts were the same as the American Suspension (or whatever that companies name is) or the Ford stock struts. Lately I've been reading that the quality and machanics of the arnott struts are not the same as struts put out by other companies.

I'm fairly pissed.

Well I won't flame you. Seriously, I don't know what you paid for the Arnott struts, but the lincoln OEM struts from fordpartsnetwork for 97-98 were in the 220 area each when I bought them, and you can use them on 93-96 models also. Unless you are saving a ton of dough, might as well get the OEM parts than anything else imho. I have ordered a few parts from them and have been happy with the results. good luck.

Appreciate the information. Seems this air suspension system is way more work than most people anticipate on a 5 plus year old car.

Good luck

RE: My arnott struts are making noises.

After reading the of the problems with Arnott parts, I ended up getting OEM '97-8 struts from FPN, $461 shipped to my door. The whole job, from the time I walked into the garage till I went back in the house to clean up was just shy of 3 hours, which included pickup up all the tools, lowering the car back on it's wheels and pumping the air ride back up. I didn't think it was that difficult of a job, and knowing that the parts I installed will last for another 5-8 years made it worth while to get the OEM stuff. Car rides much nicer too :)

RE: My arnott struts are making noises.

What side is the bad one? I have my old ones(spares incase our 95 needs them) The right front leaked only when I sensor lowered it, but it held air for 4 days after I raised the car back up. I elected to replace them, knowing, once it leaks, its pretty much a gonner. But as a temporary, either left front, or right front, they will do fine, for months I;m sure.

let me know. I have no problem sending it/them to you, as long as you send it back when you are back on the road with your new stuff.

Spare parts are good. Even if you dont plan on using them as replacements on another car, having them around is great, for this exact reason. A leaky strut(minor, that is) is better than a car that cant be driven at all.

let me know, ok? They are off my 94 with 65k on them. The right front didnt leak AT ALL after I raised it back to the stock position. Even with the "soapy water" test. I junked them anyway. I didnt want to wait until it was a "fast leak".

RE: My arnott struts are making noises.

Lesson learned on your part. I think Ford/Lincoln has worked any bugs out of their air struts/springs many years ago, after making millions of them over the years. You can bet any company making "new" knockoffs are going to have many bumps down the road.

Use good parts to begin with and forget about it and move on!
