Certified pre-owed are always from the original date of purchase. So that would be until 07 or 75k, which will probably give him one more year of no repairs. I don't see any reason for ford to give out a warranty on a 9 year old car, financially it doesn't make any sense.

But they will sell an extended warranty and some do their best to hide the real costs.

May I suggest, a Lexus GS400, or possibly a LS400. They are both very quick, [font color="#FF0000"]instane[/font color] amounts of reliablity, and look good with tons of standard features and options.
