My Daughter's Buick's Tranny

The other day at a stop light, her car, late 90s Skylark, refuses to go forward. It will engage reverse, but not drive of any kind.

She gets it towed home (AAA is money SO well spent), a few days later I try it, put it in drive and will go forward, creeps forward despite the RPMs. No reverse. Oops second try in drive and no engaging drive a second time either.

Is this tranny history? Or might it be something like a lever position sensor?

Just looking for some clues before we tow it down to Certified.

thanks!
-David

PS I loaned her my old 94 Mark 8 and she let her boyfriend smoke in it. So guess who is now getting rides to work from her boyfriend! DAMN

Its toast David....look/smell the fluid on the dipstick, I bet its black as tar and smells toasty.

BTW...punch your daughter's boyfriend in the face for that disrespect.

Certified told her "...bad gasket, all the fluid leaked out. We can replace the gasket and re-fill the fluid for $175 and it will be fine."

So, we'll see... I imagine if that is true then we got pretty lucky. If they do all that and it's still toast I don't think I should pay them the 175.

I tell you, I ahve been on a lucky streak like I ahve never seen:

this tranny isn't slag
I won the powerball (OK it was only $4 but I have never even got $1 before)
and at my company Christmas party I won a 47" HDTV!!!!!!!!
