Mystery Question?

On my 96 LSC ....About half way back on the side of the air intake is a rubber plug [cap] covering what appears to be about an inch and a half hole. It looks like something used to attach there. What was it and where did it go?
Inquiring minds need to know...................
 
From the factory there are chambers attached to the intake tube to quiet down the intake noise. Most of us remove them and cap the hole. Previous owner must have done it for you.
