A friend of mine has a 1st gen Mark and is having problems with the turn signals and hazard flashers, the mechanic working on it can’t find the fuse and/or the electronic control module (it’s not in the fuse panel apparantly). Per his printouts from CD it should be behind RH side of I/P, right of the radio. He’s pulled the glovebox and even the radio and poked around behind there – no go. Can anyone help??

RE: Need Electric Help !!

Karl,
First tell your friend to get another mechanic. The fuses are listed in the owner's manual and are fuses #10 and #11 in the instrument panel fuse box. It is in the owner's manual, plain as day. Fuse #10 takes care of the electronic flashers and fuse #11 protects the hazard lamps. After this guy takes his time and figures that out, have him remove the Multi-function Switch which is located behind the steering wheel. This switch is a problem in about 90% of the time involving the directional or hazard lighting systems. The switch gets corroded and does not work. It just needs to be removed, cleaned, re-lubricated and re-installed. The flasher is electronic and rarly needs replacing. So, this guy is looking for a problem that probably does not exist. It would have been a problem about ten years ago, but not in the Mark VIIIs.
If the guy wants to spend his money paying this guy to look for something that is most likely not the problem, that's his business, but he is wasting his money, because if the guy can't even read the owner's manual, the owner will be paying for who knows what.
