Need help getting rid of Hotbar Pop-ups

OK, stop laughing.

I almost never do this stuff, but I thought it would be cool to have the current temp on my computer (like Vista) and clicked a little too soon, and now I have hotbar popups frequently.

I got rid of everything I could, in add/remove programs. Searched the C drive and got rid of the hotbar stuff I found in program files. Ran my spyware. Yet I can't seem to get it off of here!

Anyone know how I can fix this without going back to a couple of days ago? I did this while I was downloading a new game, and wasn't paying enough attention, but I don't want to have to lose all my new game stuff.

Boot computer into "SAFE" mode, run your spyware there. If that doesn't do it, it gets complicated. Usually younger people can help!! hehe. Ask your son. If you are comfortable going into your registry and deleting every mention of "HOTBAR", that would be my next step....or first return your system to a date prior to installing that crapware!

We are in San Diego...oldest grandson wants to swim in Pacific Ocean today...other one wants to skateboard by it!! Head out to the north tomorrow...Redwoods, then Seattle/Tacoma for the 4th.

Woo hoo Bud! Sounds like fun.

I did tell my son and all he did was give me that look and shake his head at me.... I felt so shamed.

Maybe I'll give those things a try later when he gets home to help me in case I need it.

Thanks Bud! Helpful even when on the road, huh? ;)

What browser are you using? Firefox has some nice plug ins that will display the weather in the bottom bar for you.

I use IE - I've used others before, but IE works fine. I really need my upgrade to Vista. ;)

Hahahahah! :D

I also recommend "manually handling cookies", this will prevent cookies from being saved on your computer from websites you don't/won't visit again. Also, it will be at your discression and after 4 years of NO pop up blocker programs installed on my computer, I've never had a problem with pop ups.

This also prevents such things like toolbar/hot link crap.

Actually I think it is linked to my cookies somehow?, so it's not too bad. Happens on this site and one other, which are the sites I went to before I got rid of it. I've been too busy to mess with it yet.

Try adding a "user" in your windows XP control panel, and see if the hotbar still pops up on the other user, if it doesn't that its probably something saved in your cookies.

You can delete the cookies, offline contents, and internet files and start from scratch. Than go into "Tools", "Internet Options", than the "Privacy" tab and than clicked "Advanced". Than click "override automatic cookie handling" and select "prompt" for 1st party and "block" for 3rd party. Also uncheck "allow session cookies".

Make sure when you go to the websites you use for banking, or the LOD site, or other sites you know are SAFE, "always allow" the cookies to be saved, as it will only prompt you once.

Did you get this fixed yet? If not, then i would really recommend a program for you called Spybot Search and Destroy. This utility is great for removing any spyware/adware/unwanted toolbars. Best of all, its free and a legit program.

(by legit i mean no adware/spyware/malware or anything of the sort embedded)

Sorry, yes, basically what I forgot to do was reboot, lol. I'm more of an idiot than I thought.
