Need help with choice

Hey all, im not quite sure where to post this. I figure you guys can help me out.

My daily driver is a '94 Jeep wrangler. I love it, and my father and I both love offroading ( He has a monster 1981 CJ ). However my jeep also gets 11-14 MPG, and is HARD to drive. Its fun, to me theres nothing better then cruising with the top off in a jeep, but i do alot of driving and an older jeep isnt easy to drive for long periods of time. And it doesnt help i just graduated, so things are shakey financially.

So I'm looking to sell my jeep for now, and buy a car. Then get back into 4x4's in a bit when im back on my feet.

So here lies my problem. I'm having a hard time picking a car beucase whatever i buy has to last, i'm on my own are far as car problems. I want a car thats not insanely horrible on gas like my jeep, and is a bit sporty. I am 18 and a guy after all, ( though im not the kind that destroys cars with stupid driving) so i dont really want a little dinky honda.

I like the looks of the mark 8's and theres one down the street from me. However i imagine theres something majorly wrong with it. The price is 1900 and its a 1993. It has 89k on the odometer, but the guy wasnt there when i stopped by. Hopefully i'll catch him today. The body was in greaat shape with no rust (odd here in MA).

So the question is, would this be a decent vehicle for me? Even with a v8 i imagine the gas mileage would still be better then what im getting. What are your MPG averages? Are these cars reliable, and i know its a Lincoln but how expensive is it to repair of something does break?

I'm losing my mind, what do you think?

RE: Need help with choice

thanks! now that i know what to look for, i still gotto ask on what you all think about my situation and wether this would be a good choice. If im not a crazy driver with it, is it reliable? Expensive to maintaine? Any ideas on your mileage? I know its a v8 so its not going to be great, but cant be worse.

RE: Need help with choice

I always try to tell people to buy a Lincoln. :)

Reliable? Yes.

Expensive to maintain?? Not really, but it can be expensive to repair, especially if a dealer does all your work. But this site will save you from a lot of those perils.

Mileage? I get 23 mpg REAL mileage from the '96 and overall 19.5 mpg on my '93 which includes running it at the track...

RE: Need help with choice

I can most of the labor myself, I have acess to a very nice shop. Its mostly the parts beucase i would need to cover it myself. And i can only imagine whats wrong with this mark 8 to have only 89k miles and only ask 1900 for it. It does have a warentee on it though, for "Everything needed to get a sticker". Im going to stop by and hopefully catch the guy today. If everything checks out on the car, its still going to be a long shot on me getting it, as id need to sell my jeep first. :(

RE: Need help with choice

I drove to upstate from Maryland last week...total overall milage (includes running around after I got there.- 3 days - up Thursday, back Monday) was 1250 miles...averaged for the trip, 23.9. The highway milage ran about 25.5MPG. No racing!!
