Need opinions from the audio experts...

Yeah they have some pretty good stuff out there too. For old school I still love my collection of old Pioneer amps. I grew up with those things and they are rocks as far as reliablity(well I also use to repair them too so I can fix anything that someone else might have done!)

I would just do alot of research, figure out what you want and where you want your system at then compare that to the budget you want to come in under and go from there, kinda like an engine project!

Wayne....are you running the factory front speakers and an amp for only the subs?

The reason I ask is I use my factory speakers for the HIGHS and use the amp for my 15" Alpine only. The factory speakers work great for the mids/highs if you can use a crossover setup for the sub, it should sound awesome.

No, I've put in 100w RMS 6x8 speakers...forgot what brand.

I don't have a subwoofer...yet. Waiting for our big payday...

So how does this amp look? MTX was suggested here and I found this on the auction site.

MTX THUNDER 7804, TA7804

New or used? If used and it goes over $50, then I would hold off on it, but that is just me! lol

What is your price range you were looking for? I can look for an amp for you and try and see whats out there for that range.

It's refurbished. I generally only bid half price on these things when compared to their new counterparts. So if these things cost $100 new, then my limit would be $50 on a used one.

As for price range, that is fairly flexible. My method of madness in asking for a top ten was to compile a list of about the top third brand names, and out of those, shop for the cheapest model that met my needs. My thinking is that a cheap Alpine is better than a top of the line Pyramid, and it will be reasonably priced. I'm thinking a couple hundred bucks, less if I can find a used one.

FYI - the electronics industry is awash in second rate products - many which are top brand names and new in the box.

Besides the obvious Chinese counterfits, there are "second rate" components. Most stereo components are rigorously tested and any units not meeting the manufacturer's standards are usually off loaded in the wholesale market and end up in all kinds of distribution channels. I would be wary of any auction specials myself - but that may be a huge diservice to honest sellers on the 'net.

Out of the list you gave here are the amp brands (not speaker brands) i would trust with my cash,

Alpine (new models)
Diamond Audio
JBL (only JBL crown amps though)
JL Audio
Kicker
Memphis
Orion
Rockford Fosgate (new models only)

If you want high end quality also look into Zapco, audison, brax/helix or US Amps.

Amps...

Amps...

Just my two cents... if your speaks are 2ohm, I'd go with the MTX TE404. If they're 4ohm, I'd go with the TE604.

For even better thermal performance, get a pair of TE602s. This gives more heatsink mass and surface area to disipate the heat.

One thing to remember about the MTX amps is that they are always under-rated. You will need to be careful and not set your gains too high with your 100W speakers.

And to correct an earlier misconception, JBL and JL are VERY dif companies... JL was started by several MTX engineers who broke off on their own... JBL was started by Jim Lansing back in 1946... also a founder of one of the companies that became Altec Lansing.

What bad info is here? Most of it is opinions and knowledge of what is crap and what is not, plus you have to look at the guys budget too.

So I take it that you think that JL, Alpine, Orion, MTX are all junk crap amps that cost too much? So instead you post up a link and try and push these amps were a 4 channel amp is $250 where he was looking in the $100-$150 range I believe. Not saying the ED amps are bad but I think they are are out of his price range.

I was looking to spend around $250.

no i dont think jl, alpine, and orion are junk. mtx on the other hand has gone waaaaay downhill in the last couple of years. hell for that matter, since orion has been under the directed umbrella, theyve really turned to junk compared to what they used to be. and whats the point of mentioning JL when the guys looking to spend under $250?

if i were to throw some advice in this guys direction, it would be to save his audio questions for a forum dedicated to such. diymobileaudio.com has an amazing forum (aside from the OT forum) with tremendous amounts of info with folks who are willing to answer questions. if u were to take a look in their for sale section, youd find some killer deals on amazing products. i can speak from experience in this department as ive built my entire current setup this way for well below retail value.

zed stuffs really expensive. his old stuff is quickly becoming collectors items. this new stuff doesnt look appealing but their numbers/crossover flexability are fantastic.
