New best times...

Woot! Woot! Ran the track at Mason Dixon DragWay near Hagerstown, MD today.

The '93 pig of a Lincoln ran its best. The first run was still at full tire pressure, hot off the street, with a respectable 14.516 seconds at 95.39 mph.

The second run was with the DRs at 20 psi. I figured what the hell and experimented with manually shifting. That was a mistake. Even though I stayed right with the pro challenger, I flubbed the 2-3 shift and cursed as I left off the throttle at the end admitting defeat. Still the slip showed a 14.717 ET with a paltry 80.44 mph.

Third run - a riced Honda Civic fails to keep up with the Hot Rod Lincoln. With a best run of 14.460 ET at a low 94.8 mph, I was pumped. Another run followed with a nearly identical 14.463 ET at 94.71 mph. A friend convinced me to empty all the stuff from the trunk, so off to the pits we go. After chucking everything out, I trek back to the long lines while he sits out one.

With the long wait in the staging lanes, the car was at its coolest and I thought perhaps the Lincoln had a 14.3 in her. I tweaked the tire pressures just a bit - one last time. Finally, lined up at the tree against some ricer Acura, I lauched hard, hooked well and smoked that run at a stinging 14.310 ET at 95.01 mph!! Holy crap! Not only a 14.3 but damn near 14.2s?! }( }(

I finished the day with one last run, the same as I started. Without nearly the cool down time, I ran a final run of 14.516 ET at 94.95 mph. :D

RE: New best times...

Wow, that's an awesome run. Must have been a great launch, what was the 60 foot time on that run? Congrats on the new best!

RE: New best times...

These are some really nice times... 14.3 is awsome... but 95 is rather low mph for a 14.3 must have been a killer launch.

RE: New best times...

The numbers from the best run...

RT - 0.174
60' - 2.114
330' - 5.985
1/8 - 9.191
MPH - 76.19
1/4 - 14.310
MPH - 95.01

Air pressure in the drag radial was 17 psi. Front tire pressure in the Michelins up to 40 psi. The burnout was average, I've had better, but it was enough to heat up the Nittos. I could tell immediately the launch was good. The poor Acura never stood a chance. }(

Weather stats were 62 deg. F with 32% humidity. Although track temperature was recorded at 78 degrees in the lanes. Barometer at 30.12 inches. Calculated density altitude was at 796 or 1875 feet depending which temperature reading was used.

The MPH seemed off by about 1-2 mph for everyone I talked too at the track. Maybe something was up with the trap speed timers? I would've expected 96-97 mph for sure. There were light headwinds at 5-10 mph in the morning, then diminished to light and variable through the day.

I hope to get some pics and a couple vids up later. ;)

RE: New best times...

JP, that's HOT !!! Hopefully with the intake and some other stuff you can get a 13s pass.

Here's the link to the photo album with a couple vids...

Careful, the vids are unedited and big.{That means I didn't erase the ones I lost! :7 )

No, unfortunately the new best time was not recorded on video. That was my fault as I didn't radio the videographer to wake wake her up when I got to the front of the line! :+

BTW, the one vid of the Cougar and I is where I tried to manually shift. xo Steve(aka 1MTNCAT) drives a mean XR7 that runs naturally aspirated in the 13s. He launches here on street tires with 1.8x sixty foot times!

Awesome runs JP! Do you have the DR's mounted to your chrome 10 spoke's?
[/div]

They've been there all along. }(

I don't drive it enough on the street to warrant removing them. The longest drive is to the one to the track! Although, I do have a couple powder-coated 10 spokes to mount the DRs on if I wanted to swap them back and forth with the street tires.

How do you launch the car on drag radials, off idle or do you torque break it a bit?
[/div]

With the stock TC, off idle is the best I've found for me and my car. Now, later with the 3500 stall converter in there, I'll have to teach myself all over. }(

I usually start with the air pressure in the drag radials at 20 psi and lower it from there as the 60 foot times improve. Yesterday, I ended up at 17 psi. I've found that varies slightly day to day and track to track. I do need to get a more exact pressure guage though to really get serious. That and a log book for all these details!

Ahhhh spring, and the smell of burning rubber! :7

RE: New best times...

Off idle is the best way i've found to launch with the converter.

Once you have that converter, you'll be darn close to 13's, if not there!

RE: New best times...

In your mod list it says you have an LMS chip. Do you still have it and do you know how many degrees the timing was advanced?

RE: New best times...

Very nice times, you damn close to 13's !

Keep up the great work. By the way, how much gas are you running while at the strip ?

[/div]

Yes I STILL have the same chip. I don't know what the timing advance is, never checked, never really asked.

I have on the shelf a Steeda timing adjuster, thinking I might tweak the timing later. But, lately I'm thinking of getting an SCT dynotune somewhere once I get a couple other mods out of the way. That may negate the timing adjuster.

Too much this trip for sure. :( I had just under 1/2 tank when I arrived. I know I can do better than that. Once last year I had the gas level pegged perfect. At the end of the day at the track with just a run or so left, the low fuel warning came on.

After looking at the weather stats again, it'll be tough to get better air this season. HP factor was at 98%. So if I plan on 13s this year, it's going to have to be HP and not just luck.
