I haven't pulled the console yet. It's just to Damn hot in the shop.

See if I'm on track here?

Where the 4 factory plastic spot welds are in Gray. Should I drill those out to remove the excess plastic from the removal from the donnor car and then do the same to mine. Then glue this thing in?

It sure would be nice to be able to pull the knurled hinge pin's and just replace the flappers. But I don't see how you would ever get a hold of them and they certainly are not going to twist out with the pin being knurled. It was a one shot deal--made to assy only. :(

hey that thing looks familiar! i didnt know someone from here bought it. honestly man, your guess is as good as mine i have replaced whole cup holder assemblies but i am not sure what would be the best way to put that on. i never saw one break like that it was a first for me. they had it closed and it looked like it is supposed to and when i hit the button to open it to check the ears that piece came out on my hand lol. normally when i mess with those melted over pins that they did that to in alot of the mark VIII's through out the car, i use my solder gun to remove broken parts then i use it again when putting it back together, i remelt the crap to hold whatever it is i am working on. but i cant suggest what to do in your situation. your gonna have to play a little frankenstein!

Why not just replace the ears? Or does that sound easier than it really is?

That would be great. In the 1st pix you can see the rusty pin in the upper left.

It does not show thru on the other side if you flip it over. It protrudes out of the plastic aprox 1/64in and you can see the knurling /splines on the shaft.

So 1, you can't get a hold of it.

2 You can't drive out from the oposite side.

3 Your not going to be able to twist / turn the pin to pull it out.

I usually drill stuff like this out, like a rivet. It cleans up pretty easy.

Then I glue it back with Cyanoacrylate glue. Long name for Super Glue, but there are different types that are thin, med and thick stuff.

My buddy is a bodyman at the local Loncoln/Merc dealer. He has used it for years and it works very well. The part is very strong and repaired. Look at your local Hobby/ Modeler shop for it.

I'm assuming the splines are to keep the ear from spinning on the shaft when it springs open.

I guess the glue part sounds easiest. :D
