New exhaust installed today

Former LOD President
My previous exhaust had become a bit of a hack job over the years, what with assorted modifications that have been done to it after it's original installation.

So, today, i took my car to Performance Fabrication and Engineering for a custom, mandrel bent exhaust. They kept the original crush-bent tubing in front of the new muffler, but that is two slight bends on each side that really won't cost any hp anyway. They reused my stock tips and two rear mufflers, and replaced my x-pipe and dual in / dual out muffler with an x-pipe muffler. Then they did beautiful work from there back, TIG welded dual 2.5" pipes with proper clearances around all the underbody stuff.

The guy doing the work had some previous mark viii experience. He was talking about working on the bonneville car, said he did headers and exhaust for that car. Also said they got it up to 200 mph (almost 201) with enough run-up, on an unofficial run. He said he also owned a mark viii previously, an exec car that beat his '94 cobra but that he never took to the track.

Also in the shop was a C6, a nice burnt orange one with black wheels with silver rims. Very sharp car. They said it had a blown rear end, and possibly other issues resulting from the blown rear end. Then there was an LS1-powered fox body, a couple of other fox bodies, and some other serious project cars. Couple of other vettes in there too. They do some damn good work in there, from what i can tell.

This is the same shop that i had re-modify my headers. They did good work on that, so i brought the car in for the exhaust. The exhaust is now much louder. I might have to add that dual in/ dual out muffler back in there to quiet things back down again. But, no more money going into the lincoln this year.

Planning on hitting Ubly next weekend (22nd or 23rd) to try to get a new best time.

What did this fixup run ya ? I still need some kind of exhaust for my 97.

RE: New exhaust installed today

cost me 545. Yours would probably be more if you buy the mufflers through them and don't have headers. there's probably another 3-5 bends per side with stock manifolds or mid lengths

Dave, you havent sold that hot rod yet?...I saw pics of your bad-ass boat...figured the ol' hot rod would take a back seat, or be sold by now.

sure wish I could pony up the cash...especially now! Good to know that exhaust system you told me about before, has been replaced...I thought it was 'good to go" back then!

:B

Not really trying to sell it... but for the right price it's gone. Hard to find someone to give me 9k for an 8 year old lincoln with 110k on it, even if it runs 13's and looks perfect.

It totally took a back seat to the boat this year. Plus i was out of town most of the summer. It sat for weeks at a time without being used this summer. It went over a month without being washed. But now boating season is about over so it's time to give the lincoln some attention. I plan on going to the dragstrip for the first time this year, the last weekend they're open (this weekend).

Where is Performance Fabrication and Engineering located ??

Ordered Bullets today but plan to do headers next year while it's put away for the winter.

Welcome to the site.

PF&E is on Irwin in Harrison Twp. Irwin is the road that runs alongside Selfridge ANG base and connects North River rd to Joy blvd. Turn down Joy from Gratiot or get off 94 at North River, head toward the base, turn down Irwin and look for the big white car trailer out front.

As for headers, i'd recommend ordering the mid-lenth headers from kooks. http://www.supercoupeperformance.com/4.6L Headers.htm If you need someone to install them, it will be big bucks. I can do it for you in a weekend for the right price, if you like, but you will end up driving away with open headers until you can get the exhaust redone to connect to the headers. To install the headers the engine has to be supported, the k-member has to come out (with the whole front suspension and steering rack attached), then you have to wrestle with the bolts. It's really a pain in the ass, and you're probably looking at close to a grand in labor to pay a shop to do it. But they do make a difference.

PF&E can build you custom headers, but they won't be cheap at all. They will also probably install the kooks headers for you also, but that won't be cheap either.
