He's probably talking about lubing the BACK of the pads - most pads even come with the lube specifically for this.

The ceramic pads from napa have a metal backing plate that sticks on the back of the pad between the pad and the rotor. Don't use it. I had one of them shift and scrape on the rotor, nearly cutting it off the car over time.

I love the pads though, and the rotors are good too. I haven't had any problems with squeaking or excessive brake dust, and the pads work well and wear well. I've had them on over a year and the pads are still in good shape.
