New shoes for the Mark

I finally bought some new rims and tires for the Mark. I hadn't seen anyone with these so was worried about fit and obviously how they'd look...

Anyway, these are 18X8 Stearn ST1 HyperSilver rims with Goodyear 245/45-18 F1s. They have a 35 offset and fill out the wheelwells great.

I was also worried about ride and quality and noise, but it's better than ever! I'll take some better quality pics soon, these are from a phone and a video camera still pic...

Very nice. I like the 18" wheel size with the tires you chose - not too much sidewall, but not rubber bands for tires either ;)

Here's a higher res picture.

I'm still surprised that ride quality hasn't suffered. Although I expect it to change next week... I'm picking up a pair of Addco 1 1/4 anti-sway bars up at their facilities in Linville, NC on Saturday. I'm expecting those to make a BIG difference in handling, and firm up the ride a bit too.

It will make it firmer... Mine popped a wheel anytime i'd pull into a gas station after I added the 1 3/8"

Not sure what you mean by "popped a wheel", but it doesn't sound like a good thing.

Looks like the front bar is going to a real pain to install. Any pointers?

Popping a wheel describes what happens when the car pitches when driving across an inclined entrance at an angle. One wheel is "lifted" off the ground due to the stiffer sway bar.

Replacing the front sway bar is best done by lowering the entire front K-member. It's not as scary as it sounds, just takes longer and it can be a pain.

Very nice wheels, and so appropriate for a silver Mark VIII. I just ordered 17" ASA R1 wheels, and was tempted to order 18". You also have some serious tires to go along with those wheels. Congratulations.

OOOOHHH! Thats whats happening. I could not figure out what what was going on.

Wow, they really fit the 2nd gens. Sharp. (Thumbs up emoticon goes here.) haha

it means if you go up a driveway cut at an angle, the rear end is so stiff that one rear wheel comes off the ground.

Mine does this too now. those bars are totally worth it.

Its been a year since he posted, but I'll keep it going!

I like your rims! How did that sway bar install go...........:mad-tilt:

very nice.. When i put on 235/45's from the horrible 225/35 on my 19's it was like a night and day differance.. amazing how much alittle more tire can do..No more bent rims, dodging every possible crack in the road or sh!tty ride. I have no idea how the guy before dealt with it. But they were new tires when i bought the package for 500..The tires alone were 600. O' well..My new pirelli's are kicken ass.
