New to the Mark VIII engine....

Hello, I just found this site by doing a search. I belong to a couple other sites as well, not Lincoln related, so I do know how to use the search function and did but I can't find what I'm looking for.

I have a 55 and a 56 F-100. I have 2 93 Mark VIII motors/transmissions complete. I guess from reading many posts here that these are Gen 1 and have different intakes. I want these motors to be appealing to the eye and make some general performance upgrades. I saw the KOOKs headers and I think they would work good in my Effie frames.
1) What about air intakes and what about the Gen 1 intake itself, is it any good?
2) I understand from reading these have a very good block but the heads use slide plates that change runner length for low and high RPMs, is that a good understanding and can these be used in a perfomance application?
3) Is there anything I should be aware of?
Thank you for your time, Ward

i say if you want eye catching look for a 96-98 cobra intake. they will bolt right on in the marks they need a few little mods but in the truck you would have to do these mods anyway so its not anymore out of the way then the motor swap. the gen 1 intakes look more custom with the 16 tubes coming up and over the i think the cobra intake with the cobra badge on it would look sweet in the truck.

as far as headers the KOOKS headers is the only headers that fit in the frame/body of the marks. as far as a custom install any mustang cobra headers would bolt right on to the block. the kooks are not cheep because they for the most part have the mark VIII market in a corner if you want headers for your mark u either go to them of build a custom set. for the truck u might be able to find a set of cobra long tubes that might fit. just make sure they are for the 96-02 (?) as they are 32v DOHC the stang gt motors are just 16V SOHC and the exhaust ports are different.

When you get to the point of removing an intake, you will find that it is a compound intake consisting of an upper intake, a lower intake, and IMRC plates that are butterfly plates not slides. IMHO having the stock intake tubes powdercoated to a contrasting or even matching color is a big improvment.

Really wanna have some fun? Get 03/04 heads with those stong Teskid blocks ya got. Slap on an Aviator intake and hold on :)

Not bashing the Cobra intake, it is overdone. Everyone has one. Take the Gen1 intake, cut it apart, radius the runner inlets and polish. Weld it back together and have it coated and polished.

My 2 cents.

...and WELCOME! :)

It looks even better in person! I have started a gen 1 intake mod project but I never got it finished...

Stay with the the Gen 1 intake, you'll have more bottom end torque that a truck needs. Are you the same guy that called me for the tuning for this swap? I got a call last week for the same swap and looking for a simple plug an play harness. If so, I can come up with them using the EEC V so you have more tuning adjustability.

Cool and thank you all for the replies. Diller that intake looks awesome! OK couple more ?'s.
1) what about chrome valve covers?
2) how about a single blade Throttle body?
3) and a polished intake tube? Aluminum or Stainless.
I might run a C-4 with a gear vendor overdrive on the first one for ease and the fact that I already have them and they are new or rebuilt.
Lonnie, no I haven't called anyone yet but that is very interesting. I have the complete wiring harnesses for both but I would really rather have a new wiring harnesses that only had what I needed. Also I really didn't want to try and cut out what I didn't need, because that could be a disaster. What would something like that cost?
Thank you again, Ward

PS Lonnie I like the flames, I do custom paint on the side and flames are my favorite/speciality. If you would like to see some I'll get you a link to a gallery I have set up.

1) I don't know about chrome but I have seen some coated & polished much like my intake. I forget, I think it's Jet-Hot coatings?
2) The EEC is programmed for the dual blade throttle body - as such there can be programming issues using the single blade. It can be done but I heard it was a PITA and definitely not worth it.
3) Aluminum, yes, stainless, I doubt it. I have an aluminum one from another member but yet to have installed it. It needs a good polishing and a sleeve connector to the throttle body. Outside of the Mark VIII confines though, you have much more choices available since you aren't height constrained.

Sorry for the delay, I'm in the middle of packing up, moving to a new facility. Yes the harnesses are pretty much plug and play just like you would get from say Painless. You would have to run your own electric fan controller though since the VLCR is removed from this harness to reduce the amount of wiring. Other than that it has all the function left so that you can reflash the EEC, data log and monititor or clear any CELs just like in the stock Mark. The lengths are adjustable so it's fully compatible for any application. It goes for $850 plus shipping. Let me know if you need any other info.

Thanks for the comments. I did that paint job back in 02 with a well known painter in CA.
