Yep..it's true. After many, many months of research, many hours of searching, and plenty of second guessing myself, I've bought a different car to replace my 1997 LSC I sold. I had been going back and forth between a Lexus GS400 and a Jaguar XJR. Both cars have qualities that remind me of the Mark. And both have qualities that make them better than the Mark. It was such a tough decision for me..it really was. I'm still not even sure I made the right decision, but on Tuesday I pick up my 1998 Lexus GS400. My heart (and ego??) wanted the XJR very badly. It's a great, great car. Stupendously fast too. But in the end, I was a little put off by the higher running costs of the Jag (insurance 30% more than Lexus, lower fuel mileage, higher parts cost, depreciation that makes the Mark look like an investment). I hope I won't regret not having 370HP and being able to say "That's my Jag". The GS400 was a more sensible choice. But the GS is also an amazing car. It's very fast, and is much torquier than the Mark, which I really liked. It is quieter (alot), better built, and will certainly be more reliable than the XJR. There is suprisingly alot of aftermarket support for the GS as well. I also lucked out by finding a rare color for my GS400. It's more of an elegant colour than a sporty colour, which is fine by me. It's one of those colours that look bad in a photo, but just great in person. The colour is Antique Bronze Mica on tan leather. I got my GS400 for only $22,000 CDN, with all the service books up to date. I was pleased to see it never had an unscheduled service. All in all, I'm real happy with my purchase, and I'm sure I'm going to have many trouble free miles of fun with this car. You really feel a sense of accomplishment after shopping for so long to find the "right" car. I'll still be hanging around and saying hello from time to time, but I have to start going over to the Lexus board to learn my car inside and out. So what's everyone's opinion of the GS400??
