I just bought a 91 Continental and doing some work and found out the brake lights dont work I get signals and park lights but no brake lights i tryed to jump the brake switch on the pedal still no lights. it also has no dash lights when the headlights are on

Thanks for any help

Hey Jumper........have you checked all the fuses?

You're on the right track by jumping the wires, so if that didn't work, get a test light and make sure you're getting power at the brake light switch. If you aren't than check your fuses.

Also....when you say NO dash lights...do you mean the entire dash(radio, LCD screen, a/c controls)?

If you just mean the instrument cluster where the speedo/tach is located, it could be a bad dimmer switch.

its all the lights on the dash but if you wiggle the switch a little on park lights it will light the dash but not on the headlight setting.... I used a test light and have power going to the brake switch and when i put a ohm metter on the output line it was toning out? when i jumped the line there were some sparks?? will a bad bulb in the rear center cause that??? because all the other bulbs work and have signal with lights on and with out??

thanks J

Ok....so if you have NO dash lights, but you can wiggle the headlight switch, I bet that switch is bad. Pull it out and check the plug in the back, Fords have a common headlight plug melting problem because of all the power running through that switch.

Check all the bulbs in the back, make sure there isn't any wires touching or anything. If you have power going through, it should work. This doesn't have a "neon" tail light in the back does it? Like the newer Marks and the t-birds?

I just checked the EVTM for a '92 and the multifunction switch is between the BOO switch and brake lamps. Do the high mount brake lights work?
