No spark

I'm finally able to get back to this project. Once I found out the fuel tank was in front of the rear axle I was able to put an ear to the tank and hear the fuel pump kick in. I also took off the cap at the fuel rail and found fuel pressure. Next thing I did was pull plugs (#1 and #5) and turned her over. No spark.

I'm from the days of the distributor so I'm not sure where to go from here. Is there some kind of a crank trigger? She has a coil on top of each plug. I'm guessing there's something common to each plug if none are firing. Anyone have any ideas???

Try unplugging the Crank Position Sensor located on the passenger side of the engine, right next to the Crank Pulley. Unplug this and plug it back in a bunch of times and see if she starts. This is a very common problem.

Basically, this is how spark is controlled....

Crank Position Sensor sends signal to ECU when engine is turned over, ECU sends a signal to the appropriate cylinders on the coil packs, the coil packs fire and you have spark.

This is for a Gen 1, since you don't have the year of car in your profile.

Lol, not slipping....just hard to read the way people write sometimes. I guess I was skimming. :)

It still works the same, but there are more coils, lol.

Did you check for 12V at the coil connectors? One pin is hot through the ing coil fuse and the other is a switched return from the PCM. If not then back track through your connectors. I'm assuming since the fuel pump is kicking on the ing coil fuse is good, but I'm looking at an electrical troubleshooting manual for a Gen1.

You cats are the bomb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Found the crank trigger. Disconnected the cable and shot some contact cleaner at both male and female connectors and reseated a few times. The little hooker fired right up.

Many thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This forum is invaluable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

J,

I've always dug the sh@t out of the S2000's. That's coming from a dyed in the wool, buy American Ford guy. Something about those things makes my wanker stand at attention................

Lol! I always felt the same, I tell everyone this is the only Honda I'd ever own, and its not a Ricer because its RWD and its got 240HP and a 6 speed. :) Its Honda's little super car.

The Acura NSX is also a tight @ssed little ride. I believe Honda and Acura are the same company or related much as Ford and Lincoln.

Ya, the NSX's are sweet too! You are correct, the Acura is like the Lexus of Toyota, or the Lincoln of Ford, or the Buick of umm...GM? haha

Sorry to derail this topic back to what it was originally about :p but is there anyway someone could post a pic of the crankshaft position sensor in the GenII Marks? I think mine's going and want to try the plugging and unplugging thing, but I don't want to go fiddling with anything if I'm not sure of what it is. :)

I couldn't get a good picture, it was hard to get in there, its kinda hard to see, and its a little blurry...................lmao I'm just messin with ya.

Its right there, in the middle, with the plug on it. In order to replace it you need to loosen the A/C compressor a smidge in order for it to slide all the way out. If you're gonna try the plug/unplug thing, just push in the thumb tab at the bottom of the plug and pull it out.
