Hi,

I was under my car looking for a noise, when I shift it to drive and to reverse it has a thump sound, I know this my sound dump but I got under my car and had the wife start the car and shift it drive and then to reverse I thought it was the universal joints nope that’s not it at the very in of the rear end there like a rubber bumper, one side looks thinner in reverse it hits up , when in reverse and only in reverse it may the noise, any one here ever had this problem? Not sure what to fix, maybe a new piece of rubber,

RE: noisy rear end

Are you saying that the carrier moves when you shift from R to D ? It's very common for the rubber differential bushings to go bad. There are two of them, one on each side of the diff. You can replace them with a set of poly ones for around $40 and a half hour work.
