O2 Sensors

well.. i was wondering about sugestions..... what are your guys sugestions about changing my O2 sensors.... the best way that you can think...

I changed out the lazy O2 sensors on my '94 that was throwing a lean RH side code and I'd do them all day long versus a driver's side upper control arm. I did collect a couple of new tools for it though.

If you're game, you'll need a 22mm (slightly) offset wrench over the driver's side cat (I thought that was the easy side to get to) and the offset O2 sensor socket wrench kit you can "rent" from Advanced Auto on a ball joint type universal for the passenger side. Both broke loose fairly easy but I've read of others having to fight rusted on-sensors. The pain I thought was getting the connectors off and back on, which a 18" long small-tipped standard screwdriver, a really set of long needle nosed pliers and a lot of patience did the trick. I bought Bosch 15716 O2 sensors with pre-assembled harnesses from Advanced Auto for $46/ea.

Ofcourse the easy way would be to have a shop do it, lol!

I did a walkthrough on how to change your O2 sensors......sigh....I can't find it with this stupid search engine. Tried searching for 02* but...ofcourse thats NOT MORE THEN 3 LETTERS!

Honestly, all I used is a 17mm crow's foot on a long handled ratchet. Pretty easy...let me find the pics........

A trick to unplug them.....get a really long/small flat head screwdriver and stick it into the clip on the plug, twist a big and when you pull down the connector will unplug and it will be stuck on the screwdriver. Reverse for plugging back in, but put the screwdriver under the clip instead of on top.

For the driver's side.........once you break it loose, you can just hand loosen it.

Reach over the top of the passenger cat and unscrew it by hand.

Another little trick....cut the pig tails off before unscrewing the old 02's, this will let them turn easier.

When you're installing the new ones, don't tighten them tight. Go finger tight and just "snug" them....no need to go all crazy!
