Octastars-what type do you have?

I have octastars finally (thanks again Jamie!)

I've always known that there were two types of octastars, one type with frosted chrome on the holes between the spokes, the other with shiny chrome.

I never noticed that they were totally different wheels though. The small holes between the spokes are smaller on the shiny type.

One of the wheels in my set had been replaced with the shiny type, so now I can say I have all the different original Mark VIII chrome wheels (20 spoke, 10 spoke, and the 2 types of octastars).:)

So, what type do you have? I think the shiny ones are more rare. Also, does anyone know the story about these 2 types? My 98 brochure shows the frosted chrome type.

That left one definitely doesn't look like any octastar I've even seen. Does that wheel have any part numbers ? It looks like a cheap knock off.

The fully polished brand new ones I had Bill looked exactly like the one on the right, without the frosted chrome of course.

They are both Ford wheels.

The part number of the shiny one is:
F7LC 1007 AA1

The frosted one is:
F7LC 1007 BD

i noticed that difference in the previous set of pictures. I like the right side too. Same opinion about the cheap knock-off, but who knows.

the car those came from bill was in an accident a few years ago the previous owner told me the body shop searched high and low for a wheel to replace the right front wheel that was damaged. that is the all chrome one, but i never noticed a difference in the wheel other than it being all chrome until the post on the other board. i would have never known if it wasnt pointed out! i dont know where they got the rim, if it was the junk yard, or a reproduction company, who knows but now i know there are two different types out there!

It's definatley a Ford wheel.

I knew it was different when I bought it, I saw that in the photos.

I thought it would be cool to have one as an example, and it's kind of fun trying to figure out the story on it.

I'll still put it on my car(s), I don't think the difference is that noticable.

I will keep my eyes open for someone selling an oddball single octastar though. The caps are the same so all I need is a decent wheel.

If I find a single shiny chrome one, I'll put 2 of each style on each side of the car.:D

bill send a pm to nolimit95 i believe he still has the 2 rear octastars off his 94 when he blew the garage down and burnt the car. the front ones had the tires burnt right off, but the rears are perfect.

The ones on the right are the correct OEM ones... I think the ones on the left may be a style of continental wheel.

I checked craigs list for a while, I couldn't find a Continental with those wheels. I was searching 97 and 98 models.

I need to search for Mark VIII's now.:D

So far no one has the one on the left.

I can't even find any photos of a car with them.

Maybe it was a prototype? :D

bill did you send a pm to Nolimit95 on lvc? he has a few octastars from when he exploded his 94 and burned his garage down lol!!!

I haven't yet Jamie, I just ordered 2 new front airspring/shock assemblies for my black car. I'm tapped out for a while.:D

Thanks for the tip though.
