I had two boots go around cylinders 3 and 5 so I changed all 8 while changing I noticed on two cyclinders that oil had surrounded and swollen the COP boots those were not the ones broken... however but swollen to the point they were about to break is this anything to be concerned with or do the valve covers need tightening the oil on one was almost to the plug not badly but completely surrounded do I have a problem about to occur. 98 mark with 65K miles.
Thanks in advance.....

RE: Oil around COP

Your valve cover gaskets are leaking. It's a common problem, and not really anything to worry about unless it's so bad that it causes a missing problem. If you can do the work yourself it would probably not be too expensive to fix, but it would be a pain in the rear. If you pay someone else to do your car repairs for you, i'd have to say don't bother.

RE: Oil around COP

shouldnt be too much of a problem just to retorque ALL of the valve cover bolts. That in turn will tighten the o-rings around the plug tubes and at least minimize the leaking.

RE: Oil around COP

Not necessary, IMHO.
When I replaced the spark plug tower seals, the rubber was deteriorated and chunks of it were actually missing.
Re-torqueing the bolts wouldn't change nothing in that case.
I agree though, it doesn't hurt to try.
