Oil Filter Change

I haven't seen this little trick posted for quite some time. When replacing the oil filter, has anyone tried putting aluminum foil around the area so that the oil doesn't run down and get all over the frame and wiring, as well as down your arm? Here's a pic I told a few minutes ago while changing mine today.

Well!! Sorry, the pic doesn't want to load. I cut the size down, but it still won't load.....anyway, the aluminum works great!! No drips, no oilily shirtsleeve!

You can email me the pic and I can post it for ya :D maxmk8@yahoo.com

I usually just undo the filter a bit... let most of the oil drain out within 30 seconds or so and then take through over the PS line while keeping the filter above horizontal levels...

T birds are the same btw... which I also service... no probs with that route... but cleaning out the frame (k member) is kind of a pain...

Thanks Max...pic is on the way to you. I hate cleaning up used oil, that's exactly why I do this...it's sooooo easy! I just took about 40 minutes to change the oil AND clean up and put away tools.....ummm, looks like I gotta make a recycle run. Got many containers full of used oil under the porch! My 250 takes almost 4 gallons!!

Here is the pic whoa it looks really strange?!

OMG 4 gallons?! as in 16 quarts?! what kind of oil do you use? And can't you keep in there for 20k miles?!

I use Rotella T 5w40 synthetic. Change it every 5k! Cheaper to keep the oil fresh than to worry about replacing a 10k $ diesel turbo engine. The injectors use engine oil to build up the pressure to open. Just gotta keep them happy with good oil! Ford (International)

That pic does look weird...want to replace it with one I didn't resize? That one does show the idea tho....

I've used that trick a few times and it works great.

Lateley, I've been lazy and let it drip all over the k member. I just spray with brake cleaner and wipe it all up.

It's the cleanest area of the undercarriges of my cars.:D

Cut apart an old milk jug or any 1 gallon plasic container. It will wrap right arround the K-member. another trick is to fashion a chute out of cardboard and run it up under the filter.
