Oil Leak 1993 Mark 8

When I start my car in the morning, I get a leak from under the middle of the engine. I thought it was from either the filter area, including the Pressure sending unit, which I just replaced, well that didnt fix it. It's not comming from the front seal, (which I think is behind the main "large" pully that the belt goes around. the front of the engine is clean as a whistle.
My next concern is that it my just be the oil pan gasket.

What I would like to know, if anyone has done this job and what i can expect as far as work involved, tools and what I may run into that will cause me headaches. there is a large cross member bar in that area, and it get's covered with oil due to this leak. I am going to post a picture with this post to show how much oil leaks over 5 min each morning that I start the car. After it warms up, I dont see it leaking as much.

The photo link shows what may look to be alot of oil, but that is not the case, it's about 1/3 a cup or so at most. it's a "close up" shot that I took this morning.

Thanks or any comments.

The most likely culprit is the oil filter adaptor plate. It bolts to the side of the engine, and the oil filter screws onto it. There is both oil and coolant flowing thru it. I myself have not yet changed one of these gaskets but my understanding is that they are a bit tough. You might do a search for oil filter adaptor gasket to get more info.

That adaptor plate is dry. Looks like it's comming from more of the area of the oil pan in the center of the engine, not from the side were the filter is.

First you should retorque the oil pan bolts. Then check again in a day or two, If there is atill a leak you will have to look hard at your valve cover gasket as they have been known to leak.

check the oil level sensor on the drivers side rear of the pan above the drain plug

or the baffle knock out on the passenger side of the pan

is the pan rusty?

no problem, i've seen the oil level sensor leak once or twice

if the pan isnt rusty the its probably not the baffle on the passenger side

oil level sensor makes the most sense by your description
