Oil pan install

I finally had my new (to me) oil pan painted and it's going on the car tomorrow along with a new (again -> to me) K - member.
The question >>> [strong] What are the torque specs for the oil pan bolts ? [/strong]
Anything I should be aware of while replacing it ?

BTW Joe, you wouldn't recognize that oil pan, or the K-member.

J:
Book calls for 15ft/lbs then an additional 60 degrees. Sequence is counter clock wise starting at the 1st bolt on the front side of the block drivers side. Thats according to manual. By the way you have something sticking out of your pan. Did you happen to run over some road debis?? LOL

RE: Oil pan install

In other words looking at your pics just start at the opposite front side that is way from that foreign object, and proceed around the edge of the pan to tighten.

RE: Oil pan install

That foreign object is the oil return line, welded in courtesy of Joe.
I wish they made these fittings in black though !!!
Thank you for the specs. So no cross pattern, just a simple sequence ?

RE: Oil pan install

Right, no cross pattern. If you did you could "waffle" the pan. This way you don't. I think you outa paint that thing safety orange so you don't get hurt by it. LOL

RE: Oil pan install

Yep, washers were fine for a while, and worked great. So now I'm gonna use these shims since the K is down anyways.

Everything was painted very low gloss black. No orange here, Boss !!!

The pan is out of the car without major issues. Only took about 1.5 hrs. These oil pan bolts were pretty damn tight on there though.

RE: Oil pan install

Yes, the shims lower the K-member approx. 3/8 - 1/2 to clear the stock hood on the 1st gen.

Joe, my original oil pan had these tabs welded around the edge, to spread the force evenly. Did yours have that too? I didn't see any marks on there. I was able to cut them off and reinstall on the pan you sent me. I guess they upgraded the oil pan in 95.

RE: Oil pan install

It's an oil pan rail, used to help apply the force evenly all the way around, instead of just at the bolt head locations.

RE: Oil pan install

yeah, I know what it does. The issue is that they were welded on my original pan. I had to cut them off. :(
