One Year Anniversary and 14k miles later...

A year ago today my wife an I arrived home after a 2000 mile journey in our new to us 1997 Mark VIII.

2008 proved to be a pretty crazy year for us and 2009 is looking even crazier. Despite what goes on in our lives, it's still nice to hop into the Mark and make it all go away with one swift push of the right pedal to the floor. :D

As you might tell, I'm still very pleased with the Lincoln and have only had to do what I'd consider routine maintenance on it (knocking on real walnut burl).

This year the plan is for a new front end soon and some new 02 sensors even sooner. Should be a "brand new 12 year old car then."

It's nice to come across other Marks on the road, everyone has always waved. Guess that's one of the things that makes it an "enthusiasts car."

I might not be a heavy poster, but I enjoy the banter on this site and appreciate all the technical knowledge that is shared.

Looks like tomorrow it could hit 353535 miles, hopefully at least 300k more to go, thanks to everyone for keeping them on the road and waving back.

Holy crap! That many miles, and I can't believe it's been a year already! I remember looking at your pics thinking - that's a cool trip to take. It seems like it was just over the summer or something.

Congrats on your anniversary!

353535 miles?

Oops! forgot the decimal point...

35353.5 miles.

Thanx Trixie! We had another little one planned for this last new years but it fell thru. We'll need another one soon. Maybe Carlisle?

I was going to say... Most marks are dead by 200k 353k would be insane!!

Bah!
Only if their owners killed them.

With proper maintenance and a few simple repairs, there is no reason e Mark VIII cant go for 300k miles.

Of course, things can/will wear out(transmissions, engines, differentials, etc).

But dead?

nahhh...not because of mileage...owner neglect is an equal cause of death to a Mark VIII as accidents.

my 94 has 182k+ and runs better than when I bought it at 52k 5 1/2 yrs ago.

we have one at the shop with 232k on it, runs fine, no problems.

just look at Tommy's (XLRVIII)...he subjected his Gen 1 to "willful abuse"(drag racing) on a weekly basis...

so Max...bite your tongue. ;-)

tommy's car has over 400k on it and hits the dragstrip almost weekly, it was even stolen on him recently, and he has it back now, just in time to put more miles on it lol!

Well said BlackIce.:wave022:

As long as my car isn't subjected to an accident (worst fear really) I really hope it sees 300k. It is and will continue to be maintained. I hope the parts don't dry up (second worse fear) 'cause at it's current rate it's gonna take 20 years to get to 300.

By then we'll surely have automatic solar-powered flying cars right? ;)
