Hey Ya ll

Thanks for the help on my other Rookie questions.

I would like to turn the overdrive off to play with the car a little, my concern is the the previous owner was 80 years old and I dought has used the switch since it was new in 1993. If the switch is messed up is it a costly repair?

RE: Overdrive Switch on the Shifter

overdrive is default on so everytime you start the car it is on. so if for some reson the switch wont turn it back on just shut the car off and re stat and it will be on. simple as that theres no need for smart answers to real questions

RE: Overdrive Switch on the Shifter

Thanks Dan
I tried it today in down town traffic and it was fine. Seems a little quicker off. Is the overdrive supposed to engage at 35 or 40 mph. Will I hurt the trans id i keep it off in town

RE: Overdrive Switch on the Shifter

Depending on how far you put the gas pedal down, yes, abot 35MPH. If you floor it and keep it there, it won't upshift till way higher....

No, it won't hurt a thing to keep overdrive off in town....or on the road for that matter. Your gas milage will suffer depending how long you keep o'drive off after 50MPH.

RE: Overdrive Switch on the Shifter

You supposedly will run higher tranny temps with OD off.

RE: Overdrive Switch on the Shifter

true becuse the torque converter does not lock up it keeps slipping wich causes heat.
