wondering how long it takes to hurt the mark 4.6 block driving witout accessories or water pump it was about 90 degreees outside

also how long does it take for the block to overheat when the temp guage is in the red

RE: overheating

If it's in the red it's too hot.

With an aluminum engine it's possible to really do some damage. If it ever gets that hot, you should stop right away and let it cool down.

RE: overheating

Basically, you've got until your temp gauge hits the red before it needs to be pulled over...which is not going to take long.

RE: overheating

BTW, welcome!

I'm not sure, but i think these engines have the same feature that the northstars do... when they get too hot they'll go into a limp home mode and run on 4 cylinders, alternating which cylinders it runs on, pumping air with the other cylinders to cool the engine.

RE: overheating

When your in the red the message center should say "replace engine soon". If you drive more than a few miles the engine could get hot enough to warp the heads, melt the spark plug boots down into the bottom of the cylinder head, destroy sensors that are supposed to warn you of overheating conditions, Should I say more? And BTW. Forget the Limp home mode...It actually goes into "Call a Tow Truck Now Mode". Fix it..Dont drive it hot!
