Parts Car Value?

If the car has a rust hole in the oil pan,the entire engine is JUNK.That shows the car has sat for a LONG time out in the weather and that will destroy every part of the car.Condensation will eventually ruin seats, carpet, electronics, and even the headliner. It might have even been under water.Call a junk yard and ask them what junk price is and offer them somewhere around that.Or call the salvage people and see what you could get an engine for and leave the car alone. The engine will be a lot easier to store than a parts car.

RE: Parts Car Value?

not necessarily. Rust on the oil pan is a common problem on these cars. My '94 almost rusted through the pan, i caught it before it was too bad and started cleaning it and coating it with WD-40 on a regular basis.

If you can get it for a grand, you're doing good. $1500 probably wouldn't be too far out of line. If the owners were smart they'd jb weld the pan, fill it with oil, and sell it for $3500.

The oil pan isn't too bad a job. Just support the engine, drop the k-member, unbolt it, and bolt up a new or used one. If that car were near here i'd try to get it cheap for myself.

RE: Parts Car Value?

Well the engine is frozen, my guess is it was run out of oil. If the interrior and trunk didn't reek of rat $hit and piss then I would have given her the $500 she wanted. The rest of the car was in ok shape, not bad for a 93 but not too great either. The air suspension was leaky too. W/o the engine even being able to turn over I just didn't want to deal with parting it out and not really making enough money to justift the time spent doing it. Although the rear window seal was good, I would have swapped the rear window to my car in a second! I'll be keeping my eyes open though.

Parts Car Value?

Hey guys, there's a 93 mark for sale locally. It has 97k on the clock, the owners say the car is in near perfect condition, the only problem is the car needs an oil pan (rusted through, BIG job). I haven't looked at it yet but assuming what they have told me is true what do you guys think? They are asking 1200, I would like to pay half that......

things they say work fine (although I don't know untill I actually see it)

air sus.
tires are in good shape
interrior is near perfect
trans is fine, never had a problem
engine runs great
paint is in good shape

I don't really have the money for this right now. But if I could get a good deal, sell some parts make the money back. Then have an engine here so I can rebuild it in the future with forged internals for when I can afford a supercharger.

RE: Parts Car Value?

I bought my '95 for about 1500 at copart auctions, had a rusted oil pan. the exhaust hangers were rusted too but the rest of the undercarriage was nice. The car had been kept real clean. The motor was immaculate. So we dropped the k-member, steering, struts, raised the motor about 6 inches and prayed we wouldn't twist off a oil pan bolt. Well we did, but I got a new pan and haven't had a problem since. At first we used the JB weld and the next day there was about a quart and a half of oil. Oil pan is not THAT bad. It'd be worse to shell over the big bucks for the 13 hour or whatever they want job. Plus these cars are powerhouses. Go for it.

RE: Parts Car Value?

oh, i missed the reply where you described all the other problems. Never mind my comments above.
