Peeling Steering Wheel

The top of my steering wheel has a lot of peeling. What can I do to stop it from getting worse, and what can I do to fix it?

RE: Peeling Steering Wheel

They say "call for prices" - I bet they make sure you're sitting down before they tell you.

What's your guess for a wood/leather combination? $500? $1000?

RE: Peeling Steering Wheel

I was told $750.00 + installation

 I would like a wood and leather combo wheel, but I am a little worried that they won't be able to match the other wood in the MArk VIII.

I like the new forum guys, its good to be here.

Hey Fred!

Hi Norm!

Its good to be back:) School and work take up all of my time, and it is terrible:(

I have spoken to a few people regarding the drama that has unfolded over at the other place. Can someone shed some light on this?

Thanks again,
Fred

RE: Peeling Steering Wheel

I use "Wheelskins" Steering Wheel covers on my 944's and they are quite good. One thing, if you go this route, do a "Baseball stitch" rather than the standard loop stich, it will be much better. You might have to order an additional length of cord to do the baseball stitch but it's worth it.

Installation is not easy and this is simply a round cover that does not cover any of the spokes, but it is better than a torn, cracked or peeling cover.

Wheelskins has a website at www.wheelskins.com but ordering factory direct is very expensive. JC Whitney and most other big aftermarket suppliers have better prices. The website is good for sizing and color though.

I didn't get a chance to welcome you, Joel. I missed your entry, so WELCOME HOME !

RE: Peeling Steering Wheel

Hi Joel.

Thanks everyone for the info, now I don't know what to do. I was afraid it would be expensive to get fixed right, and I did just order some fancy new mufflers for the car...so I might have to just go with a cover for now. x(

RE: Peeling Steering Wheel

Sharon,
What kind of mufflers did you decide on? Are you going to retain the stock tips? I bought a set of Flowmaster 40's, but now I'm concerned about the noise/ droning. Let us know how you like your choice, please.

RE: Peeling Steering Wheel

How did you manage to move this whole thread? This needs to be done for the Carlisle thread so newbies can get the info.

RE: Peeling Steering Wheel

Hi Paul! Good to see you. I am ordering some tunable mufflers, and I have Dan Rotolante's pipes. I'll let everyone know more about them when I get them and then get all the stuff installed. I can't wait. :)

Leo - I'm not sure what you mean?
