Pics Of Surgery Progress

RE: Pics Of Surgery Progress

This engine bay screams for Shawn's chromed crossover tube.
Just teasing you, Steve.
Looks great !!!
BTW Did you upgrade the steering knuckle ??

RE: Pics Of Surgery Progress

True. I'll have something like that soon :)
It's being delivered tomorrow. My mechanic thinks the stock one will clear, but I'm getting the new one just in case.

RE: Pics Of Surgery Progress

Dude, you won't believe how the car feels with that knuckle in there. My wife even noticed the difference.

RE: Pics Of Surgery Progress

If your refering to the steering knuckle that may not always work. It depends on how "Off" the redone pipe is.

You may find yourself in need of offset rack bushings pitching the rack to the right (Passs side) you gain a TON of clearance.

RE: Pics Of Surgery Progress

How did it feel? What is the difference?

You know all of that play when you move the steering wheel left or right slightly? GONE. NO play whatsoever. It doesn't handle any better, it just moves quicker. I can't wait to get the front sway bar in.

RE: Pics Of Surgery Progress

Geno,I think I made plenty of room on this set.His mechanic even thinks it'll fit with the stock one!

Steve, did that cold drink help your boy tighten that last bolt?I know it sucks, but thats all I could tell him was to not give up.LOL

RE: Pics Of Surgery Progress

He will be making friends with those two bolts tomorrow. They are thinking the engine mount might get moved to do it.

RE: Pics Of Surgery Progress

I cannot imagine trying to tighten those bolts from up top. That is the one time i like being on bottom...

That culater guy on Corral is a dick.

And you should have your rag joint this morning Steve.

How did you guys install your knuckles? Mine was not easy. It would work by cutting the old one, and mofifying it. I had to take it to a machine shop. The Joys of LT headers. But they they sound very sweet with offroad 3".

RE: Pics Of Surgery Progress

I modded Eli's knuckle in a matter of minutes to make it work. I used a drill press, and a plasma cutter.

You just have to be smarter than the equiptment that you are working with.

RE: Pics Of Surgery Progress

I cut the steering shaft nub that sticks off the factory joint. If you cut it close, like with a band saw there is enough left over to reuse. Then I put i bolt it in,then tack weld it,then remove it and weld all the way around.Thats the strongest way I know of.

RE: Pics Of Surgery Progress

I totally cut the piece that the DD shaft is pressed into. For you welders out here I "washed" away the origional piece that holds the DD shaft with a torch. Once you do that you will have enough to put into the knuckle, then use a drill press and drill set holes for the allen set screws to rest in. Then apply locktite on everything jsut in case.

And you have to have cool star-wars sounding tools like a "plasma cutter"!
