Well, I live in south texas near the gulf. We didn't get the hurricane, but we were on the dirty side of it. Unfortunanty, I was not home when this happened, so I was not able to move my mark to higher ground. I wanted to cry when I saw these pics.

yes, water got into the interior. It is almost totally dried out now.

Those of you that saw what the interior carpet originally looked like knew it really needed to be replaced. Now I don't have an excuse not too.

So far, there does not seem to be any real damage done. I have the car opened up and airing out. I will have to go over everything with a fine tooth comb.

Is there anything in particular I should watch out for? Right now I have the air ride turned off. I want to be sure it is dried out before switching it back on.
 
you need to check inside the doors and dog legs (the part of the body between the door and the rear wheelwell) to insure the water has all drained out. I see you dont have a moon roof, so I dont believe there are any drains in the dog leg.

Noooo!!! I know how much work you put into this car... that's a tough sight to see.

Personally, I do not know how well these things handle flooding. (although I could tell you some stories about a 1987 Taurus...) From the looks of things, most of the electronic modules I can think of would have been above the waterline in those photos. exceptions: behind the front bumper, you have the pump for the air-ride, and some sort of emissions pump. In back, you have the emissions equipment under the trunk, but I can't imagine that would give you much trouble.. Seat motors, I suppose.. you might need to take out stock in the WD-40 company..

How 'bout the little green Pontiac there? was that another project?
 
that sucks, i hope nothing major is wrong with it, as always you need to make sure nothing electrical got under the water. you need to check the seat motors and electronics.
 
Surely you will need to tackle the front end with the ball joints and spindle bearings, same for the rear end as well, including drive shaft. It is going to be a real pain to go thru it all, but if you plan on keeping the car you will need to. Best wishes in your recovery efforts.
 
I turned off the airride first thing. I am not going to turn it back on until I certain it is dried out.

As for the front seat motors, both of the front seats were shot and needed to be replaced. I didn't even have a factory drivers seat in it. I am going to get 2 new front seats, and a new carpet for it. If the front seats I get are not the same colour, I will get a back seat as well.

The interior of the trunk surprised me. Stayed bone dry in there.

I am going to go over everything with a fine toothed comb, and I know it is a pain, but I have put so much work into this car to just let some water ruin it.

As for the green Pontiac, that is my roommates project. I gave him the car. I had bought it as a project for me, but when I got the Lincoln, my priorities shifted. It needed a new engine and he swapped one in, but it was bad so he is having to redo it. It also got water in it (as well as the trunk), but since it is up on blocks, it didn't get as much as my Lincoln did (also, my air-ride was deflated in the back).

Apparently a tree fell on it.

Okay, I am going to start out by swapping out all the fluids in the engine, transmission, and rear end.

I picked up oil and filter and tranny fluid and filter. Before I do this, I want to be sure I got the right tranny fluid. Mercon V right (remembers a time when Autozone told me to put Type F in my Oldsmobiles 1993 4T60-E and had issues)?

I am also going to do the rear end fluid, but what fluid is recommended for that? They just said "its all the same crap" and that did not inspire great confidence in me.
 
don't know if it had traction lock. I know the traction control system is buggy. Sometimes the car drives fine, then other times, it does not want to go at all. When it does that, I just disable the Traction Control, and it drives normal.

How do I check that?

And tranny fluid, is that Mercon V?

Could be a speed sensor giving erroneous messages... I'm pretty sure the ABS is activated by a imbalance in the speed sensors...

What year is your car?
 
its a 1998. I think it is an ABS sensor since it is REALLY erratic when it acts up. I can go a whole week without a problem, then halfway down the road, the engine pulls back and lacks power. Disable the TC, and the car runs fine.

Yes, it does blow that this happened, but it is not down the tubes. I am planning to put the car on the road next month come, well, errr, hell or high water. The car has been through both already. Hell from the previous owner, and water from the hurricane.
