Poor Radio Reception in Town Cars

I've seen some of the posts in this forum bemoaning the reception quality in their 2002/2003 Town Cars.

Ford has a fix. It's a revised Hidden Antenna Module with a built-in signal booster and different wiring hookups to the backglass.
See your dealer and ask about TSB 03-23-07, published on Nov.18/03.
It refers to a complete kit, Part number 4W1Z-19G323-AA.

Remember, this is a SERVICE BULLETIN (information only), not a recall. The fix is covered by Ford Warranty or ESP plans only.

Just keep in mind you're driving one of the best cars on the road. Would you rather have a Caddy with the Knocking Northstar?

RE: Poor Radio Reception in Town Cars

I'm not sure if that is the fix. In my case with my 2003 Town Car the reception is excellent. The "problem" {not a real problem, but ...} is that volume, or the power output. The digital readout on the face plate of the stereo has vertical strobe lines that illuminate as you increase the volume. They look like this:
IIIIIII
and as you increase the volume, more illuminate. At the mid-way mark there is a larger one to indicate the middle (I assume). I have to keep it like 2 of the II marks below the middle. That seems very high to me. My Caddy will deafen you at that equal amount. It's an ALPINE but must be the Costco-version Alpine!!:(

Therefore.... Is what you are talking about address THIS issue ?

RE: Poor Radio Reception in Town Cars

No, Sandy. It's for a reception issue only. You're the first person to complain about the volume issue, but I know what you're talking about. If you do bring the volume up high the system starts to distort. I haven't seen any fix for that.
I guess the Ford demographics experts assume Town Car owners will be listening to Jazz and Classical at sedate volumes.

:) :) :) :) :) That's funny. I mainly listen to "Smooth Jazz" and "Soft R & B" ~ somtimes the oldies, but the REAL oldies, not stuff from 1980, but more like from 1957.

Thanks for the clarifaction !!

RE: Poor Radio Reception in Town Cars

Greetings,

Just found this forum and have a question regarding the audio problem mentioned above.

I have recently acquired a 2003 T/C Signature Limited edition with 5,000 miles. I had to get rid of my 2000 T/C after a tree fell on it at the local Lincoln dealership.....long story...:). I love the new car and it is just wonderful. My problem is with the AM portion of the radio. No matter what I adjust, it sounds like all of the people have a cold...like a muffled/echo sound. The FM/CD portion sound just fine.

I remember that my 2000 T/C's Alpine stereo had settings for something like "Jazz Club" "Church" "Hall" and a few others. I assume that this was removed in the 2003 Alpine since I don't see any mention of it in the owners manual unless you have the navigation radio. It sounds like the AM portion is stuck in the "Hall" mode.

Anyway, The car is just great and thanks in advance for your time.
