Potentiometer

Back in November I had to separate myself from my 98Mark and I got a 2005 Lincoln LS to replace it. Worth noting the Mark is a much more impressive car to sit in and to drive. It turns more heads than my LS. Nevertheless, I had sterering column problems and was lucky to get a column from a junk yard. The big issue was a "potentiometer" which is the brain for the Mark 8 column. My question is - the LS has a steering column that operates in a very very similar fashion. Is there a potentiometer in it that will become very very difficult to find in the year 2015? I also had real "plenum" (heater in-dash problems) not to mention several other issues that would cost me at least $3000 to cure in the Mark. Had to cut my losses.
