RE: POWER SEATS

Without a manual for that model, my input is limited to checking for voltage at the switch as well as proper ground at the switch. If there is proper voltage at the switch , check the switch functions. Also investigate the motor for mechanical binding.

The only info in the owner's manual that would be helpful here would be the circuit breaker location. The "manual" I was referring to is the EVTM(Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual).

The switches for the seat control are probably very similar to the later model('91-'92) Mark VIIs of which I have manuals for. They are simple slide contact switches as shown below?

Basically, in operation +12VDC is applied to one side of the motor when the switch is activated while the other side is grounded. When centered, both sides are grounded.

I would check for proper power AND grounding at the switch first, then investigate for proper function of the switch itself.

I did the next best thing called my uncle another Mark VII Owner,
We found out it was a switch malfunction it will need to be replaced..

On the Contrary for anyone who has also expirienced this problem, this
is what we did for a temporary solution.

unplugged the connector for the power switch to the motor, took some scrap wires and placed it into both the connectors than, we took one end of the wire and twisted it so that the negative and positive was reversed when connected to the power switch so that when we pressed the seat back it went in the opposite direction. I know I know.. I dont know mechanical talk yet but that's the best I can do if I've made any sense..HAHA.. thanks again for your time

Dude(tte).<I crack me up>
You just did more on your Mark than some mechanics have done.

Not everyone has the gonads to even attempt what you achieved. Be proud and don't sweat the lack of ability to use the correct nomenclature ... YOU MOVED IT!
