Power window motor rebuild

Hey Guys, I'm new to LOD and just wanted to throw out a quick and cheap fix. My drivers side window failed to roll up recently. Not suprising since my 94 mark has 173,000+ miles on it! Anyway the culprit was the clutch on the motor. New motor from ford was about $136 if I remember correctly. However I found that ford will sell the three nylon rolers that fall apart in the clutch for about $5. The little package even comes with instructions (necessary for installing the rollers). The entire job from start to finish took about 25 minutes. Hope this helps anyone with a window problem. I have had the 94 for about 3 years now and have changed most of the high wear items, and have had quite a few head scratchers (LOL)!

RE: Power window motor rebuild

Steve,

I am not sure what the part number was. My buddy at the parts dept gave me it. I do not remember if the parts were ford parts, but I will check with him on Monday and see if he can give me a part number.

RE: Power window motor rebuild

I fixed mine about a year and half ago with simple hexnuts. Don't remember exact size, something like 1/4" nut. It fit in snugly. You need three per motor. Still working fine. The Ford original plastic balls are probaly designed to fail first and preserve the clutch. The hex nut fix above should be fine temporarily, until the Ford part arrives, assuming you wish to fix it "right". I've yet to fix it "right".

RE: Power window motor rebuild

Most auto parts stores have the rollers that you need to repair the window lifts. They are in the "Help" section or you can ask the counterperson to look them up they are made by Dormann Industries and cost about $6.00 per set of 3. The 1/4 or 5/16 nuts will only cost about $ .30 for for 3 and will work just fione. I posted this info about 3 years ago on the "other" board. :)
