Problem with Accel Kool Blue Air Filter

Hello,

I just purchased an Accel Kool Blue Air Filter (like K&N) off Ebay for my 1994 Mark VIII. Dimensionally it seems exactly like the standard paper filter I am using. However, when I tried to install it, it just collapsed into the air filter housing due to the rubber edge around the filter being to soft. The paper filter rubber edge is much more rigid and doesn't fall through. I am trying to get a refund because I am afraid it will gap and bypass dirty air. Has anyone else experienced this issue with air filters? I thought I was getting a K&N for less but I think I got a cheap knock off.

Thanks, Fife

The filter is supposed to be clamped by the two halves of the air box. You may have better luck removing the air box completely and then installing the filter.

I never had a Kool Blue panel filter but I did run a conical filter of theirs once. The quality seemed fine to me.

It is unfortunate that you are having trouble with the cool blue filter. But since you are, did you ever read the many negative posts about costly and worthless upgrades for a stock Mark VIII? A common problem occurs with a K&N and other high dollar filters. They all have a tendency to allow the oil on them to dirty the MAF and cause all kinds of problems. You cant beat a new paper filter such as a Wix, or Baldwin or even Fram. And yes they all flow a more than sufficient amount of air.

The guy I bought it from on Ebay is going to take care of me and refund the money. I am definitely going to stick with the paper element from now on.

Thank you,
Fife

I've been running a conical K&N for years and have yet to have MAS contamination. You only get into that trouble if you over-oil them.

I had the same problem with the Accel Cool Blue Filter. It is too small. I went back to a paper filter.
