pulsating brakes?

Lately I've experienced this wierd pulsating when the brakes are applied very lightly at very low speed, as in barely moving.

It happens just before the car stops and just as I let off the brakes. The car ratchets foward, as if I'm pumping the brakes, but I'm not touching the brakes.

It stops when I tap the gas. I just had the tranny rebuilt. I also have the ABS fuse out cause it was acting wierd like activating during routine stops on dry roads.

What could it be?

my car use to do this after I had the tranny tuned. As I would stop the car's 2-1 shift would be very late and the car would almost stall. The car would vibrate and once it reached 1st gear it would rachet forward.

You sure its your breaks?

i'd check the RPMs while its doing it. It seems like you're describing what was happing to my car.

When I had the car retuned the shift points were retuned also and the car was tuned to not slip between gears.

but when I went to break at a light or something all the downshifts were hard (which I didn't mind), but the 2-1 shift was to late and the car would almost stall in 2nd gear then when it would shift into first the car would heave forward.

I had it fixed with a new tranny tune to shift from 2nd to 1st earlier. Which is why I was wondering if you had your car tuned to shift harder. :p

Well, I had the tranny rebuilt but I didn't retune it. The only thing that is not stock is the lower 1-2 accum. spring was left out. Now it shifts too hard for my taste so I want to put it back in.

It still seems to slip a bit when excelling from coasting.

Yes, it has Mercon V.

It only does the "ratcheting" thing when it's warmed up, like after a few miles on the highway.

When you can simulate the problem, try pressing the brake pedal ever so slightly (only hard enough to illuminate the brake lights) to see if you're having a converter issue. Maybe its pulsing in/out of lock-up?

Will it do that at a virtual stop?

I think I will see if it does it in manual 1st to rule out T man's idea of not down shifting from 2nd to 1st like it should.
