R&R Rear Springs and Compressor

I’m going to be doing HOTLNC’s rear air springs this weekend. I’m also going to replace a very noisy compressor.

This will be the first time I’ve ever done these parts.

Your comments and suggestions are very welcome.

Read through my instructions in the link below, for the compressor.

This includes the spyder valve install, just ignore that part. NOTE: The mention of plenty new air line applies to the spyder valve. Be careful removing air lines(push orange ring in then pull out). The part of the lines inside the old compressor get hard and are difficult to get out. You may have to snip them close to the compressor if they don't budge. Make sure to leave enough to reach new compressor.

Others have write ups here,too.

Haven't done the rear airs springs yet, mine are still working.

I HAVE done the rear shocks(if you want to do that, too), via the Monroe Sensa-trac mod(t-bird v8 shocks). I have a write up on that here somewhere. About $25 each side(not including new shock mounts(another $25)) and easy to do, they work great.

Thanks. I've done the shock isolators, but not the shocks. I hope the bumper cover is not as hard as it looks.

The cover doesn't have to come off, but with it off, it's right there in front of you, easy to get to. The biggest problem with the cover on is to disconnect(then reconnect) the wiring harness connector to the compressor. It's at the very front, below the compressor (toward cover).

To remove bumper cover:

Open hood, remove plastic cover over the headlights & radiator, remove the chrome strip below it, remove the sidelamps.

There are two screws behind each sidelamp attaching cover to fender.

There are five screws in each wheelwell (three in fender, two in splash shield).

Two bolts on top of the grill.

One screw and four pushpins along bottom of cover.

Remove the cover with grill attached.

To install, reverse above.

Ok, rear springs are installed. Now for the compressor. That bumpper cover is outta there.

I lowered my compressor to make room for an in-fender CAI. I removed the bumper cover according to the manual. The two bolts behind the grill were a PITA. Otherwise, not bad at all and I am glad I did as I needed all the room I could get.

I did notice the compressor rubber isolator mounts were pretty well shot though. I think that's the source of most noise complaints.

"In fender CAI." ??? Please decode. I think I melted my brain, becaues CAI doesn't click right now.

The new compressor is in. The old one had big time shrenkage of the rubber mounts.

Bumper cover removal was a PITA. I'll replace the pins with pop rivits, I guess. Or oversized plastic cutting screws.

Ok, now to install the bumper cover. <sigh>

Of course. See I told ya, my brain was melted.

Ok, it's all together now, except for the bra. I'll test it this morning.
