I have a 96 lsc with the factory sound system with the 10 disc cd changer. When I turn the radio on all I get is static and loud crackling noises.I tried changing the in dash radio since I have a spare and I get the same thing.Any sugestions as to where to look next?

Sounds like {pun intended} the amplifier is failing?

Is it just just when using the AM/FM radio or does it do it playing a CD?

does it all the time.It does it as soon as you turn it on,the radio or cd player doesn,t work, just static and crackling.

:(
I would believe the amplifier is failing. It should be suspended under the rear package tray. You can access it by climbing into the trunk.

Amplifier Problems

It may be time to upgrade your sound system. ;)

I'm not sure of any test procedures. Replacement would be hit or miss with used units, but if found cheap enough it could be worth the effort.

You could try searching auction sites or reaching out on FaceBook to Bruce Budnick or Carlos Mejia.

Sounds like the amp to me too. If you can make it to the Telegraph cruise this year, I can bring my spare amp and try it out.

I was gonna come to fort street saturday but I didn,t want to drive all that way without music. How hard is it to change one out?

It's not hard, just a little fiddley unplugging the connectors. I like to lay on my back in the trunk and use a push pin puller to remove the push pins and a small screwdriver to help unplug the connectors. I've done it often, so it takes me about 5 minutes.

Bill,do you know the part number for the amp I need.I have a 96 lsc with the factory cd changer and phone.I found one on ebay but the seller said to verify the part number.

It's F5LF-18C807-AA The 5 after the F indicates it was changed in 1995, if fits 95, 6, 7, and 8. I'm looking for the F3 for the 93 or 94 myself, they had different connectors. I have had a couple of those 95 and up head units go out too though.

Thanks driller,I already ordered one from him.Should be here tommorrow!
Let us know how it works. I forgot to mention, the amp is connected to the plastic tray with plastic clips that are part of the tray, that you just bend away from the amp to remove the amp, and make removing the connectors easier.

That's great news! I'm glad it was a quick / easy fix for you!

I have a 93 Mark VIII with the JBL system that is having the exact same problem. I purchased a NOS amplifier off EBAY and it did not correct the problem, so Im thinking head unit which I've replaced once before. Any suggestions of someone to send my current head to to be repaired?
